My only complaint with him is that his name makes me think Younice Bellendhandler.
Like when I see "Dirk off".

"Daniel Agger is a player I very much want to keep" Paraphrased from his prematch interview today.

Just seen the post-match interview (Gerrard and Borini) - evident that Allen's a done deal and Agger's a good bet to go.

I mean what did Gerrard/Borini say?

Gerrard couldn't keep the smirk off his face when asked about Allen and said he'd have to be careful but he's a very good player etc. Obvious stuff.

....but looked very uncomfortable with very little eye contact when asked about Agger and said it sounds like it's out of Danny's hands and a decision for the board, but he'd like us to keep our best players etc.

Sorry if mentioned before, but haven't read it on thread... Isn't Agger now cup-tied for Champions League too, which would then make him less of an option for City? Or is playing Europa not count for Champions league...?

I don't like this.
Who does?
It feels like Rodgers is testing the board by making one of our better players available in order for them to make more money available. Or maybe I'm reading too much into it.
Agger clearly wants to stay.

No he's not.
Edit: unless we progress to the group stage. In that case he is, so the probability of him being cup tied for city is about 99.5%.

Rule 18.07 states that if a player features in the first, second or third qualifying rounds of either the Champions League or Europa League, he can play for another club in either competition from the group stages onwards, provided his former employers do not reach the group stages themselves.

If a player is involved in any of the aforementioned qualifying rounds for a side which then goes on to play in the group stages of either UEFA competition, he is not eligible to play for another club in Europe in that season.

There is a common misconception regarding rule 18.19, which states that from the knockout stages, a player cannot be registered to play for another club if he has already played in the same competition that season, or if his previous side remain in that competition.

However, this rule does not mean that a player would be able to play in the group stages for his new club, and then find suddenly himself ineligible to play in the knockout stages.

Provided a player’s former side were eliminated prior to the group stages, and the player was then registered to play in the groups of either competition for his new club, he is free to continue playing in the knockout rounds of either the Champions League or Europa League.

Yea, he will be cup tied for both competitions if Liverpool reach the group stages. of the Europa league

gerrards comment ruined the game for me. i was on a real high until i heard his interview. Sounds like the owners want him out, but can't agger dig his heels in and choose not to leave?

.... We knew we'd listen to offers. We knew agger didn't want to go. We know we'll accept a bid that meets our valuation.

Failing to see why people are surprised/upset here?

they can't force him out though. If he chooses to stay they can't sell him. Yeah they won't offer him a new contract, but will lose the valuation on him next season if they don't.

I wonder if maybe we're looking to sell because he won't sign a new contract on our terms, maybe they're trying to force his hands somewhat.

More likely its about money. they are looking at the cold hard facts of how much football he has missed and don't think he's worth a new contract. Agger wants to stay, everyone wants him to stay apart from the owners who are doing moneyball to buy cheap and sell big. Money can then be used for new players.

So pretty much our owners are being tight handed and we have to sell a loyal talented player. Uugh. What did gerrard say?

You know I'd rather keep him for another season then sell him for £16 million or so like Villa did with Young.

Well I think up to now it's been plausible to think it's a matter that Rodgers has a major say in, but this makes it seem like a purely financial decision taken over his head.

I'm sorry but that's seriously depressing. These owners are barely any better than the last ones. Potless and clueless, just better at the PR stuff.

I highely doubt that we would have played Agger tonight given his injury record, IF he was close to signing for Chelsea.

A certain Geordie on the bench though, he wont be here for to long if Newcastle put in a bid.

Chelsea? You mean City.
Agger's future should be down to Rodgers, not the owners.

As for Carroll, i reckon he's nailed on for Newcastle tbh.

he's off, it blatantly sounds like it and gerrard wanted it known its not down to agger but the owners wanting him out. Good stuff stevie.
