Dan Agger - A football thread

You're losing the fucking plot. I said his value would drop if he doesn't sign a contract extension. That's not a criticism of him, it's a fact.

Who cares if his value drops? Seriously?

G&H are history and are nothing but a bad memory that hurt us. We must learn the lessons.

Liverpool is a football club, not a hedge fund. We should not be selling our best players to balance the books. Leave the valuations to the accountants and let them concentrate on getting more funds through increased revenue generation, sponsorship and a renovated stadium. We should get on with winning football games.

Lest you have forgotten that, "This club exists to win silverware!"

I do agree however that if this was a game of Monopoly we should sell our most prized assets when in their prime, always. Like Gerrard to Chelsea back then, Suarez this window etc.

That would generate loads of money and we'd be able to build a few shiny Hotels too.

I get all that, well put too, we just don't know whether the club has shown any real intent of keeping him a Liverpool player or they've asked him to take a paycut well aware that the richest club in the world are upping their bidding every 24 hours.

I am not asking anyone to be sentimental about it, but I want the owners to listen to the man in charge on the pitch, Mr. Rodgers, and how he'd like to keep him in the side. Act accordingly.

Rodgers is part of the business side of the club too though mate. He has to look long term. Agger is giving him a similar choice. You can play me for two years and what happens beyond that will be an unknown OR the other option is to sell me for over 3 times the price you paid for me and re-invest it in the team. Pragmatic people will always make the choice that carries the least risk. I've no doubt of Aggers affinity for the club but, if he truly means it, he'll sign a contract and soon. No matter what the term is - it's likely to make him a millionaire several more times over.

Everyone is not saying we should sell him, they're saying if he doesn't sign an extension to his contract, we should sell him.

In an ideal world we'd never sell a good player, people need to have a look around though.

We're a midtable side with a 125m or so wage bill, with not a lot of room for manoeuvre upwards.

Exactly.

And the best teams around earns the most money, makes it GOOD business too - hence you keep your best players happy, you certainly don't keep on selling them.

That's a short term view though. I like Agger the player - I think he's quality but in sixteen months time he'll be able to sign a pre-contract elsewhere. We'll need to replace him and we'll have limited funds to do that. If he doesn't sign a new contract and soon the club will have little option but to sell as at least it will provide funds for a quality replacement.

Liverpool > Agger ... I love Agger, want him to retire here. He gets the club. But if the CLUB needs to move him on for the better of the club, then I'll be upset like I was when other players I loved left. It's part of the business, even when it involves Danes.

I'm fully aware that we exist to win trophies thanks. I'm just not naive.

An injury prone player (who's injured more than 50% of all games) who has an unsigned contract perhaps isn't worth to hold on to if we get a good offer, even if the player has a tatoo or not.

I was against selling Gerrard at all cost. I am against selling Agger too. Or Suarez. Fuck all to do with nationality, to be honest it would spare me for loads of tiring accusations and arguments on here if he left.

Liverpool, the club is all that matters, hence I want the best players to stay. It's simple math. If I were the owners and I wasn't skint I'd aply the same logic as the best players will give you the best chances of winning which again would increase turnovers.

As well as Liverpool > Agger is true so is Liverpool + Agger = winning

What does (Liverpool - Agger) + £0 for a replacement equal ?

The top 4 in England earns around £20M alone from competing in the Champions League. Add heavily increased revenue from a top position in the table, sponsors etc. etc. and you'd find they'd be in a much better position to actually make a good, sound business compared to those down at 8th place.

Just because the likes of Citeh and Chelsea hasn't because they've spunked gazillions in a short period of time doesn't change that.

Fuck me, didn't I just ask you all to take this to the Accountant thread? THIS IS A FOOTBALL THREAD.

You're the one talking about money. And it's frequently the case that top clubs lose more money than the smaller ones. You're chatting hysterical rubbish in Agger thread. Who would have thought it?

Oh the negativity, the trolling, the abuse.

6CM has become a rather unwelcoming place to be of late so Ill give it a proper rest.

See you around and Ill keep on reading the boards as there is still a lot of good posters around.

Kristian, it's only a football forum on the internet.
Please don't take it so hard. Take a long breath and go on posting your views which are as valid as everybody's.
