Loads of rumours about us being in for him, on a loan most of them reckon. What do we think? Good deal?

The rumour is Chelsea will let him go if they signed Andre Schurrle, I know he's probably out of our price range, but by fuck would I love it if we tried for Schurrle, brilliant player.

£20m is the fee quoted for Schurrle so we wont be anywhere near that deal. Sturridge would be a good pick up but I would imagine he would end up playing one of the wide forward positions. I think we need a central striker more than a wide forward. Suarez is a fantastic creator of chances but a pretty poor finisher, we need somebody more clinical in the centre

Yes, yes we do.

Interestingly Suarez scores quite a lot for uruguay where he has Cavani playing with him (and not scoring too many himslef...).
I think Luis simply need a prominent attacker as a partner who can pull some of the defence attention off him. Anyway, I have a feeling he will be more prolific for us this season (though I had this feeling last season too...)

I think suarez would be more prolific if he was with Carroll.

A left footed player for the right wing, for Rodgers sake he desperately needs one. He has pretty much admitted his tactics are useless without penetration. His tactics and formations are all well thought out, and can be debated and admired. But they are still useless. Penetration is not a tactic. He has no plan for it other than to

(a) stick suarez up front and hope he tricks his way past defenders and scores
(b) have right and left footed players on either side, and hope they cut in, shoot, and hopefully score

Everything else you associate with Rodgers is just useful for passing the time during a game. The actual result will depend on (a) and (b).

Bid for a loan being discussed by us Chelsea for Sturridge. Apparently after we agreed the Carroll loan.

I know. Just a wasted opportunity.

I think suarez just needs a partner

I thought he has one... 😉

(Sorry Ross - but Binny ain't here, and I miss him)

Daniel Sturridge will look to leave Chelsea in January to try to revive his England chances.

Sturridge, 23, has fallen out of favour at Stamford Bridge since Roberto di Matteo took charge.

He could have left in the summer, but Sturridge wanted a permanent move then, which is why a loan switch to Liverpool did not materialise on transfer deadline day in August.

The England striker, however, has become increasingly frustrated at a lack of first team openings in recent weeks - he's played just 31 minutes in the Premier League this season - and will think again about his future in the new year.

I wish we'd go for a ruthless goalscorer. We seem to have spent the last ten years buying players who can do a bit up front and a bit on the wing.

Sturridge has potential, we need a proven goalscorer. We have enough potential in the Reserves and junior ranks.

Wasnt there talk about Rodgers rejecting the chance to sign him? If true this is obvs a no go.

No Rodgers was prioritizing other signings (that didn't materialise either) but wanted us to sign Sturridge on loan. In fairness, it would have made perfect sense to sign him on loan with a price agreed for the end of the loan period if we wanted to take it.

Sturridge only wanted permanent i think too.

Yeah, that was the story. If Chelsea sign a striker in january we could get him for a very decent fee.
