[article=http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/liverpool-target-danny-ings-transfer-2879521]Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has put Burnley goal machine Danny Ings at the top of his Christmas wish-list.

Rodgers wants a new striker to give him depth behind Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge - and the England Under-21 hot-shot is his main target.

Ings has been sensational in the Championship this season and the Reds' chief Rodgers thinks he is ideal to add an extra dimension to his squad.

The former Bournemouth striker could be persuaded to go to Anfield, although he would clearly only be cover to Suarez and Sturridge.

Rodgers has seen his strikeforce's shortcomings exposed by Sturridge's ankle injury, but was chasing 21-year-old Ings before that setback.

Now, the heat has been turned up.

High-flying Burnley would demand a major fee for Ings as they are chasing the massive financial prize of promotion back to the Premier League.

However, the parachute payments from their last stint at the top table in 2009-10 are running out, and they recently revealed losses that were only partly covered by the summer sale of striker Charlie Austin to Queens Park Rangers.

If Liverpool come calling with a decent offer - and if Ings wants to go - it will be a hard move for them to resist.[/article]

[article=http://www.lancashiretelegraph.co.uk/sport/football/burnley_fc/news/10852717.Burnley_striker_Ings_linked_to_Liverpool]CLARETS top scorer Danny Ings is a target for Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers, a national newspaper has reported.

The New England Under 21 is said to be wanted as cover for Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge.

Ings has this season and next left to run on his current Burnley contract.

He is the club's top scorer with 15 goals, and scored twice for the Under 21s on his full debut last month.

Ings had been an ever present for the Clarets until Tuesday night's visit of Watford.

He sat out the game - a goalless draw - with an ankle injury.[/article]

[article=http://www.bbc.com/sport/0/football/24175557]Danny Ings is revelling in his position as Burnley's main striker following Charlie Austin's summer departure.

The Clarets, helped by seven goals from Ings, have made light of the loss of Austin, who moved to QPR in August.

"I've always backed myself to say that if I play as a striker, I'll score goals, and it's showing this season," Ings, 21, told BBC Radio Lancashire.

"Last year I dropped back a little bit because of Charlie playing. It's nice to take that role as a striker now."

Many predicted a season of struggles for Sean Dyche's side, especially after Austin - who scored 28 times in all competitions last season - was sold for a fee of about £4m on the eve of the Championship campaign.

But Ings and Wales international Sam Vokes have formed an effective pairing up front, contributing 10 goals to Burnley's cause and helping them up to fourth in the table with 14 points from seven matches.

"I've known for Sam for years and when we had a run of games together last year we performed well and got results. We're a good partnership," said Ings, who, like Vokes, came through the youth system at Bournemouth.

Ings has suffered two serious knee injuries since moving to Turf Moor in 2011 and after participating in his first full pre-season with the Clarets, is showing signs of the talent that persuaded former boss Eddie Howe to pay a reported fee of around £1m for him.

Up next for Burnley, who have won their last three league games, is a trip to Leeds on Saturday.
"The key in this league is consistency," added Ings. "That's what is going to get us to the top level.

"If we can stay fit, we've definitely got the quality on the pitch. There's a good feel around the club. We're getting results and winning games convincingly as well."[/article]

[article=http://www.lancashiretelegraph.co.uk/sport/10402723.Disabled_Clarets_fan_says_thanks_to_his_hero_Danny_Ings/]A YOUNG Clarets fan has spoken of his delight after Burnley forward Danny Ings gave him his boots after the final game of the season.

Joseph Skinner, 13, a season-ticket holder at Turf Moor, said Ings’ gesture made Saturday the best day of his life.

A photo of the moment, captured by photographer Andy Ford, proved an internet sensation as thousands of football fans shared it on social networking sites after Burnley beat Ipswich 2-0 at Turf Moor.

Joseph, who lives in Padiham with his mum Bernadette Nuttall, 41, and sister Katie, nine, said: “It was absolutely unbelievable.

“I had shouted at Danny as he waited to take a corner when we brought on Brian Jensen, and he looked at me and pointed at his boots.

“I sort of expected him to come after the game then, and when he did, I was so excited.

“I said to him: ‘Good game Danny’ and it was so loud I couldn’t hear him but I think he just said: ‘Cheers’.“I look like I’m crying in the photo but I’m just really happy.

“Kieran Trippier was my favourite player until Saturday but it has to be Danny now!”

Ings’ size nine boots may be too big for Joseph, who takes a size five, but the Blessed Trinity RC College pupil has his own shooting boots. Joseph, who has cerebral palsy, was the top goalscorer for his side, Bolton Bullets Powerchair Football Club, last season.

His mum Bernadette said: “We’d like to pass on our thanks to Danny Ings. It was a really nice thing to do.

“It was very genuine and spur-of-the-moment, and very surprising too.

“It’s amazing how many people have stopped me to say they’ve seen the photo.” Joseph, whose ambition is to manage a team of his own one day, said: “The support I’ve had from everyone is touching.

“It was the best day of my life. Maybe only being at Wembley (when Burnley won promotion to the Premier League in 2009) was better.

“It gives you a bit of faith in the game again after all the controversy you hear about.”[/article]

Yikes! Is he still at Bolton? (Being lazy, I'l check: yes, he is. And what a familiar sounding report this is. At least the first bit: "After ex-Liverpool player Jay Spearing had ballooned a glorious chance over the bar on 24 minutes, Ngog got his goal to put his side one up")

fuck now a days it feels so desperation for me that any player who looks good in the video. It feels like he will be the one who will solve our problems 😳

We should have taken Charlie Austin or Nahki Wells as back up last season before the value of both skyrocketed.
Ings is decent though and is the right age.

I haven't seen him play but it's typical we get involved in a player after one decent season, stat-wise anyway. He'll cost a fortune! I thought we'd learned our lesson after Aspas, Alberto, Borini, Wilson, *the dud*...and so on. If we were to delve into the Football League for a striker, like Leo suggests, I would prefer we go for someone whose done it season after season and still relatively young like Charlie Austin, Nahki Wells or Jordan Rhodes, even if it's just to field a team of Jordan's.

Can't believe people are seemingly happy with this, hope its a load of bollocks, i would start to be very worried if there is any truth in this, the Will Hughes stuff is bad enough.

We need proper PROVEN quality not some no mark kid (squad player at best) whos had half a decent season in the championship.

Good post until that last sentance where you completely conradict yourself.

Why the want or need for Championship strikers?, i'ld much rather take a punt on Pato or someone like that, spot on about always in for players who have only had one good season in their careers.

Was saying during the summer about going and getting Remy, his class was so blatent last season, shame about that rape thing though i doubt we were in for him anyway.

Pato only had 1 good season at a decent level

He was a cripple most of the time

He had more than that but yeah he is made of glass.

You get my point though, theres quality out there for decent money, obvious example is our last Jan window, Championship strikers? the mind really does boggle.

Aaron Ramsey was a championship player. As was bale. And the ox.

There's talent in the lower leagues at an affordable cost.

Of course there is some talent in the lower leagues but the vast majority of the time like those examples it gets poached early when they are very young, look at us with Sterling and Ibe aswell.

We are crying out for proven quality, players that can come straight into the first team and deliver, we arn't Crystal Palace or Sunderland who have to take punts on the latest striker to have a decent season in that league, our standards should be much higher and rightfully so.

My point was more to go after someone who has a track record of scoring goals instead of players hitting a purple patch and are then overawed as soon as they come to Anfield. But seeing as Ings is a Championship player I thought it was irrelevant to name random strikers from around the planet. Pato would be Aquilani all over again. Remy would've been a great addition.

I first saw him early 2010 and mentioned him on here in 2011..............

"Fair enough, have a look at........
Jonathon Williams & Nathaniel Clyne @ Palace (as well as Zaha obv and maybe even Sean Scannell.......maybe we should just buy Crystal Palace)
Scott Malone @ Bournemouth
Nick Powell @ Crewe
Danny Ings @ Burnley (out injured)
Jacob Butterfield @ Barnsley
Elliott Hewitt @ Macclesfield
Kevin Phillips @ Blackpool"

He was out injured and Burnley didn't know how good he was going to be; I knew they wouldn't miss Charlie Austin (although Austin also has "Premier League" written all over him.

Unlike Will Hughes who has never impressed me, Ings has impressed EVERY time I've seen him and IMO he's well worth the risk. I'd offer Burnley £7m & £5m in add-ons.

He reminds me of a quicker version of Robbie Fowler in that he can score from anywhere and he always finds a way to get the ball into the net from wherever he is and whoever is marking him.

Proven quality rarely has worked for us has it?
Joe Cole,Nuri Sahin,Fernando Morientes,Glen Johnson etc etc.
Most of our good signings have been unproven as you call it.
And why in the name of sweet christ would any club with half a brain would want to give Pato 100 plus grand a week to miss half the season.
There's a reason why Pato is playing in Brazil at the moment and it's because not one club in Europe want him on those kind of wages.
That Greek lad would be a far better option.

Cheers, nice summary

I've no doubt we actually won't be in for him though

Hmmmmm ..... Maybe we should offer them 35m ?

He's already riding a first class Virgin train down to dat London.
We have no chance.

@irishred, Fair enough but Liverpool want/need strikers who have a track record of scoring goals in top divisions, not championship.

We should always aim to get the best, fishing around for a striker in the championship shouldn't even come into the equation, its small time and pretty tragic for a club as massive as ours.

Sorry if i come across as an arse, its always wound me up hearing this sort of stuff and seeing people try to justify it, its Liverpool FC not some nothing club with zero/low standards.

Can't judge him as I've never seen him play before, though of cos have heard and read about him after Burnley's great start to the season. A few thoughts:

1. As @Fabio mentioned, there are talents from Championship. Besides, just look at the millions we spent on players from bigger leagues and how good they turned out to be.

2. Article seems to suggest he'll be cover for SaS. Only 21 yrs of age and worked his way up over the past couple of seasons.1 in League 1, 1.5 in Championship - one of which was with a promoted team and the other 0.5 playing behind the main striker. Given the chance this season and so far grabbed it with both hands (or rather, legs). Would an established player like Konstantinos Mitroglou settle for a role as 2nd fiddle?

3. Charlie Austin and Jay Rodriguez both had both had less than two years left on their contract when they left for £4.5m and £6-7m respectively. They might be reasonable when it comes to asking price, as compared to other Championship clubs (although their current league position might change their thinking a litte)
