Haha. Surely it's a conflict of interests and he'd have to step down from his position at United? I give up on football.

In the real world he would have to resign from the Utd job to be appointed Vice Chairman of the FA.
Good thing does rules doesnt mean anything to the FA...

Don't Jon, it's shite. May as well go to your most local Saturday/Sunday league pitches and watch any random game.

There are some blokes who genuinely LOVE committee meetings, and sadly those are the ones who always end up running the bastard things!

Tell me about it. I spent over 30 years working for some of them and rendered myself pretty unpopular in certain quarters by not bothering to make any secret of my views on the subject.

Would you recommend speaking out if you think a meeting is pointless and a waste of time?

Yes if it's true and you don't care about the consequences, otherwise probably not. Trouble is there are all too many of the kind of people whom macca identifies and for whom meetings are a way of life, or at least a way of work.

I'd guesstimate that during a 32-year career in the Civil Service and local government I was obliged to go to three or four times as many meetings as were really necessary to get things done. Don't go running away with the idea that it's just public service that's guilty, though - I have friends who've worked in both public and private organisations, and they tell me the "meetings culture" is every bit as deeply entrenched among larger companies in the private sector.

Of course we had one of those fellas in the form of Rick Parry, who could schmooze for Britain as well as bore for it, but I'm not sure it did us much good. In fact, now I think of it, we had Noel White as well, and he just went native and was more bothered about England than he was us!
