Diogo Jota - died in car crash RIP

It's awful news, absolutely heartbreaking for his family. A young man in his absolute prime, professionally and personally.

For me, there was always an element of 'Keegan' about Diogo. I just about remember the end of Keegan's time at LFC and, the qualities he had, Diogo had as well; spirit, strength, endeavour, and no shortage of skill. A perfect little man to that big man up front.

The club will support his family as best they can, of that I'm sure. And the sentiment of the wider LFC family will hopefully provide some comfort to those who need it. RIP Diogo & Andre xx
 
I won't post the pictures of the wreck, but they are out there. Let's just say it would have been instant and neither of them were stuck in any fire. The car looks like it's been cubed.
 
Never believed we would have a player one day who would play FIFA with the fans one evening, go score a winner against Arsenal the next, play like he was made of ice, celebrate with a Baby Shark, then go home and make love to his childhood sweetheart and appear so happy in training like he had just signed for his boyhood club.

Honestly, just really really gutting. I remember his transfer coming out of nowhere, for a pretty significant fee based on what we were spending at the time. I initially had lots of doubts about him but he quickly put them to bed. Definitely one of my favorite players of the past 20 years: top class finisher, clutch when we needed him, won every honour, and a world class windup merchant.

Beyond all that, truly a wonderful human being based on all the stories being shared. An important part of the tapestry that is Liverpool FC.

Not sure if it's just because I've been a bit more emotional than usual the past few days but I'm taking this surprisingly hard.

Time for a new avatar in tribute.
 
Had a quick look at some other clubs websites and so far I've checked utd, citeh, Arsenal, and Wolves. Obviously Wolves have it on their homepage but the only other club to have it is utd...

Look up their Twitter accounts. All of them have sent condolences I think.

Tyres can wear out in a supercar after 6000-12000 miles depending on the driving style and power going through them. Normal cars are between 25000 and 50000. These cars are going to go between 2-4x more tyres over their lifetime and I guess one or two missed services and you're in a danger zone. Presumable the car is registered in Spain/Portugal and MOTs are every 2 years in both, meaning these high performance cars could get pretty risky within that time frame, especially around a windy mountain road. Heat may have been a factor given the heatwave around Europe, but at 12/1AM I would have thought the road would have cooled down.

Not just that. A piece of carbon fibre from a previous crash for example, could easily result in a puncture
 
As some of you will know, my Dad died in May. He was 89, he'd been struggling with dementia and general ill health, in many ways he'd been gone a while already, he was only really there every now and then. He wanted to die, it's been tough dealing with the loss, but it was the loss of someone who was almost dead already, and who was happy to go when it happened. I'd known him all my life, he'd always been there. We'd had some difficult times, but also some good times, even latterly when his dementia made him more forthright, because it meant he said nice things to me at times that he'd have kept to himself otherwise. It wasn't always forgetting that Mum had died years before and asking where she was.
I never knew Diogo Jota, never met him, I saw him play live a few times, found myself thinking during the last year that maybe he'd had an injury too many and wouldn't be the same again. But I've watched the videos people have posted. His last goal against Everton, giving it to the Leicester fans in a fairly meaningless Carabao Cup tie which took on extra significance because those fans had been dicks all night and there he was, winding them up after scoring the winner. I remember worrying he'd get suspended for it. I doubt he gave a fuck. And those EA FC videos, the camaraderie, the connection with his team-mates. What a character, a personality, a bundle of positive energy. In many respects he couldn't have been more different to how my Dad was latterly. I accepted Dad's loss straight away, but I'm struggling to accept that Diogo Jota is gone, because he just seems so alive.
 
It's difficult to process the news. Well spoken and humble in interviews and what a player he was. There was an aggressive edge to his play and then there's that ice cold finishing. I remember watching the Spurs game a couple of years ago when their defender messed up in the last seconds with the score at 3-3 and realizing that the ball had fallen to Jota and knowing that we'd won the game. Before he had taken his shot. What a loss to his family, to Liverpool and to football.

I loved Diogo for being such a fighter. In an era where you seemingly have to be a 6'2 brick shithouse to be a footballer, here was a guy my size throwing himself into every challenge and coming out on top. It took real bravery and even when he'd get hurt, he'd get up and do it again, like when that Chelsea lump landed on him.

Nobody knew about the lung op. It must have hindered him last year and its gutting we won't get to see him back to his best after getting it sorted.

Quick brain, unselfish, could play in any attacking position. Probably the most instinctive finisher since Fowler. And all that before you even consider what he was doing off the pitch for the team, or in his personal life.

One thing that struck me was none of his teammates seemed to be at his wedding. I think that shows someone with a whole different, very private side to his life. I hope in between the national side games and the op that he got a little quiet quality time with his nearest and dearest and died a happy man.

Regarding the wedding. That's quite normal. They already had 3 kids and been together since they were teens. Probably just wanted a family thing.
 
I've seen the pictures of the car, it looks look like its been hit by scud missile. I have never seen a car totalled like that on the road. The mind boggles for his loved ones who have to identify the body. Thoughts and prayers to all his loved ones including those close to his brother. I hope the club can play testimonial for the benefit of Jota's family
 
So many parallels to the Reyes accident. Eye witnesses now saying they were travelling at a 'very high speed'.

Ugh! Fucking hate this.

They may not have to formally identify the body. In this country at any rate, the authorities will try and spare the family having to do that in a case where the corpse is in a badly damaged state for whatever reason.

Yeah he has been on my mind constantly, think we are all really shocked by this, and it is amazing, just as he was signed as a surprise, he leaves this world in the same but sad surprising way. I cannot make sense of it.
 
Difficult to express oneself when a tragedy like this occurs.

As well as our own grief for a special player his family, especially his children are missing a father and an uncle, his wife a husband, and the parents their sons.

R.I.P Diogo. I'm glad you played for us.

Have you seen the picture of the car? I can't help but think, these cars were designed without safety in mind. I think if a Lamborghini hit a bicycle, it would come out second best. Poor kids, they can't even say Goodbye to him. I am going to shut up now

Weird to think that this is a man I have never, and will never meet. But only last month I travelled 4 hours across the country (cos i'm a wool), to gather with some internet mates and then stand on a small hill with and wait for 3 hours to then scream and clap in his general direction on a open top bus for 10 seconds before driving home for another 4 hours.
