Diogo Jota - died in car crash RIP

I think there is a bigger issue for him, muslims are actually not allowed to attend the actual funeral of non-muslims ( it is a Islamic directive), they are supposed to stand up and show respect during the funeral procession for Christian/Jews. So it would be a bit awkward for him to attend to stand by as the coffin is taken for burial but not go to the actual Church ceremony etc.

However from Mo's tweet I think he is taking this very very hard and the fact that he mentioned being fearful of returning knowing that Jota will not be there kind of explains the depth of feeling he is experiencing.

Oh the funeral was at a church - makes sense. Mo probably would have got stupid hatred, like he does on Christmas every year, had he gone ... he kept that shit away from the day ...

did ibou not go to the funeral though?

i’m just saying that in relation to being a muslim, no criticism of mo or anyone else that didn’t go. everyone has their own commitments/feelings/beliefs and ways of handling things.

Mo is a huge figure in the arab world though... carries different weight

I just want to point out that this is not a universal Islamic directive at all.

The pic below is from Queen Elizabeth's funeral.

The reality is we don't actually know if Mo was there or not, if not then why not. Mo every year puts up a Xmas tree, so paying respect to his friend because some Muslims would get upset would be the least of his concerns.
As someone said Ibou Konate was there. The guy with the white turban and black gold robe is a Cleric as is the guy with the white hat next to the woman with the black hijab. He I assume is a scholar of Islam from Al-Hazar University in Egypt

It was a small church/Chapel, it was already full. Some had to stand outside. I think the players decided themselves who'd go and rep the club.
Many didn't go like Elliott, Diaz, Mo, Ali, Firmino, Mane, Shaq, Adrian and Klopp.

Bullshit

My muslim is bigger than your muslim - is that the level we've gone to now?

I see the shit Salah gets from 'fans' because he posts a picture of a Christmas Tree ... I've not read about this stuff wrt Ibou (I don't follow Ibou on social, but do Salah mind you). Maybe it was part of his 'decision making process' - keep that away from the funeral.

It wasn't an insult to Mo or Ibou in terms of their adherence to their faith etc.

It's really starting to do my head in seeing how performative the media and fans are making the mourning for Diogo. Let players pay their respects in peace, and in their own way. Everyone is being judged by how quickly they post on Instagram, like its a contest for who is the most sad. Fucking TV cameras are filming players like Jordan Henderson try to hold himself together whilst he travels around Europe to leave tributes. People are holding a register for his funeral.

Honestly fuck all of that.

That's the whole point isn't it?

we're painting Mo to be this massive muslim figure and coming out with shit like he's not allowed to attend the funeral of a non-muslim in a church when it's clearly not true. Ibou attended - oh yeah but he attended because he's African continent massive and not as big as a muslim as Mo despite him putting up a yearly photo of him with his xmas tree.

Look we all grieve in different ways, please can we NOT make this a pissing contest about who did or didn't turn up at the funeral. It's not about that. The world has lost an amazing son, husband, father and by all accounts decent human being who also wasn't half bad at football and FIFA.

Listen, Mo & Jota were good friends - I found it odd. I asked a question, unlike others did in the Diaz thread for example.
Moron answered the question, then others chimed in with their povs.
Your conclusion is fair, and I'm closing it.
That's all.

I would agree - just didn't see this kind of opinion in the Diaz thread.

The same applies to him too. One of the drunkest nights I've ever had was the day of the funeral of one of my best friends, maybe that how Diaz dealt with not being able to go? Maybe he's a dick, I dunno. Impossible to know from some tweets or out of context photos. I think its gutter journalism, and not worth thinking about.

The day after my mother's funeral, my brother woke up with twigs in his hair. It took him a minute to remember that our other brother had fallen into a bush and he went over to help and proceeded to fall into the same bush.

And your knowledge is bullshit
Islam is not a monolith... Bangladeshi Islam is a hodgepodge of many influences. Pakistani Muslims and Bangladeshi Muslims, you would think would be similar but there are differences.
Bangladeshi graves, rarely do you see women attending. Bangladeshi Muslims will rarely lay flowers or candles at graves. When Queen Elizabeth died, East London Mosque had a group of members (about 5) that objected to Regents Park Mosque playing the national anthem. Both Pakistani, Bangladeshi Muslims got their Islam from the Turkic region of Asia about 1000 years ago, but Turkic Islam is way more progressive, so you will see pictures on turkish headstones, you will see women attending the burial etc...

Thus proving my point that somehow muslims aren't allowed to attend non-muslim funerals or it's strictly forbidden
