Story from todays NOTW, Babbel + Lucas plus cash. Whats the lad like, I know he's good on FM but thats about it.

LIVERPOOL are lining up Wolfsburg's Edin Dzeko to replace Fernando Torres.

Kop scout Manuel Junco has been in Sarajevo to talk to the striker's people, say sources in Dzeko's native Bosnia.

Chelsea and Manchester City are poised to make massive bids to sign Torres - and Liverpool could spend some of the £50million they receive on one of European football's hottest properties.

Dzeko was the Bundesliga's top scorer last season with 26 goals.

But new Wolfsburg boss Steve McClaren will play hard ball over the 24-year-old.

Sources suggest that they want Liverpool to give them Ryan Babel and Lucas Leiva plus cash for a player they value at about £30m.

Liverpool risk losing out in the race to sign Dzeko because of the uncertainty over the future of manager Rafael Benitez and their American owners.

But their preliminary moves suggest they are already preparing seriously for the possibility of losing Torres.

This one sounds like a load of shite

JAMES MILNER has snubbed Manchester United and told friends he wants to join their arch rivals Liverpool.

United, Chelsea and Manchester City are all desperate to land Aston Villa's 24-year-old England midfielder.

And Villa boss Martin O'Neill has demanded the Midlanders slap a massive £40million price tag on the player.

But with O'Neill also being linked to the manager's job at Anfield if Kop boss Rafa Benitez goes this summer, Milner has not ruled out a dream Liverpool move.

Sources close to Milner insisted: "Being born in Leeds, there is no way James wants to play for Manchester United.

"His preferred Premier League club is Liverpool."

But if O'Neill stays at Villa Park that option will be KO'd - leaving City and Chelsea to slug it out.

O'Neill is realistic enough to know Villa cannot compete with the money at City's disposal even if owner Randy Lerner doubles Milner's current £45,000-a-week wages.

But he doesn't want Villa to roll over when City up their offer to nearer £25m and will make City's Arab billionaires to pay through the nose in any transfer negotiations.

A source close to O'Neill said: "Martin doesn't want to start the summer feeling like he's pushing a rock up a mountain because the club have let Milner go too cheaply.

"This is a player Villa have turned into an England international, who has been one of the most consistent players in the Premier League and who has discovered a whole new role in central midfield thanks to Martin.

"To let somebody of that quality and stature go without a fight and at a price City believe is a bargan would be counter-productive.

"Nobody at Villa wants to see Milner leave and the club will speak with him before he goes to the World Cup about a contract extension.

"But if his heart is set on leaving, then Villa must get the absolute top price for him."

i *heart* dzeko

if torres goes i would love that lad. hell, get him anyway and have the best forward line ever!*

*overstatement

Hard ball...hahahahahahahahahahaha

For the love of god offer them Insua as well

Should be a good team next year with Gerrard, Masher and Milner in midfield - and Torres and Dzeko up front.
Now, if only we can hang on to Riera...

can we please just have one season where we unload our pish and dont buy any donkeys

its started well with voronin - babel, el zhar, riera next please. milner can play in all their positions and will get as many games as all them combined, even throw in benayoun and try for cole on a free then maybe throw sterling into the first team squad

everything was so stale last season, things need to be shaken up

Dzeko is okay, i wouldnt mind him... but....He misses a lot of chances .. 30 million is fucking daft. If Torres is 50 million there is no way Dzeko is anywhere near 30million.

id cry if we lost Torres and spent the majority of the funds on Dzeko.. .

Lucas & Babel & £ = Dzeko > Ibrahimovic = Eto'o & £40m
[/quote]

I think you misinterpreted the article. I gathered we were paying them EXTRA to take Babel and Lucas...

so milner wants to turn down man city, united and chelsea for liverpool...erm, why exactly?

Guaranteed first team football, which wouldn't be the case at any of those other clubs.

As for Dzeko - he's Bosnian apparently, while Jovanovic is Serbian. If there is any truth in this rumour, I just hope somebody's thought that one through.

Milner would easily get a game at City or United, and I don't think he would struggle at Chelsea either, gien how often Ballack and Mikel played this season, both of whom he is superior to

In any case, it's a load of bollocks anyway and he won't be joining us

As for Dzeko, if we manage to fucking get shut of Lucarse as part of a swap, it would be the deal of the century

I cannot see Lucas being sold this summer if Rafa is still in charge, especially if Mascherano goes to Barca.

Sorry Brendan and alll the other Lucas lovers

I don't think his ability is superior to Ballack's. His attitude is and I'm sure he'd get games, but I don't think he'd be a fixture in the side.

Agree about the Dzeko deal, depending on the size of the cash element. I get the count's point about Lucas but, if we're in a position of having to sell players the manager would rather keep anyway, I don't think he'd necessarily make an exception for Lucas. [Crosses fingers.]

Makes sense.
I have a small amount of each 😀

If Torres and Gerrard both go we must demand top dollar for both. Use those funds to rebuild the team.
