He was with us a few years and he was pretty damn amazing, but we didn't win anything while he was here and he left like an absolute fanny, so nope, not a legend. I know it's not down to individuals to win trophies but there's no way I'd stick him in an all time greats list. He forced a move to Chelsea ffs

Definitely not a legend. Same with Suarez too. Hate everyone who leaves us for "better things". Don't care if the move was warranted or not. I am incredibly petty that way.

And Torres has the unique distinction of being the player who turned a generation of fans into proper cynics whenever players profess how much they love the club and YNWA. Unfortunately, that is his legacy at Liverpool.

So much this.

Suarez was the more skillful player but I don't think he was significantly better for us upfront than Torres.

Torres did it time and time again for us against top oppositions on bigger stages, champions league -Inter, Arsenal, Marseille, etc. Suarez did destroy Man Utd when he announced his arrival but Torres did it against a much better Man Utd and much better defense of peak Rio and Vidic.

Torres didn't need Sturridge and Sterling making runs and distracting defenders. He was a one-man defense destroying machine. He was like "Stevie G, just get the ball to me early and watch me destroy the defense on my own".

Some of his performances in his first two years are legendary. After the Chelsea game, we had Reading in the league cup. The defenders were absolutely horrible and were scything him down at every opportunity. He did not clutch his legs and lie on the ground and cry and look at the referee, none of that shit. They knocked him. He got up, smiled and punched them back, scored a hattrick.

Suarez would have done at least as well for us on those bigger stages had we got there under Rodgers, and Torres had a far better midfield behind him led by Stevie and tailored by Rafa exactly to Torres' strengths. Sturridge and Sterling were in the same team as Suarez and did extremely well of course, but sorry - the idea that Suarez "needed" them I find bizarre. Not once in nearly 60 years have I seen a Liverpool player as capable as Suarez of bamboozling a whole defence on his own

We will have to agree to disagree on those points. We are comparing different levels of genius.

Maybe Suarez would have done well on those bigger stages if he had the chance, but I still would trust the 2007-2008 Torres over Suarez.

Yes, Torres did have a midfield and team optimized to his strengths. He did not show breathtaking skills like Suarez but on his own he was as effective if not more.

I think the role of Sturridge in our title challenge is underplayed. Suarez was the one who took our breath away with some of his performances but Sturridge was the perfect number two. Maybe "needed" was the wrong choice of word but without Sturridge, that title challenge ain't happening either.

sorry if quiffing ... but his first 11 of players he played with in England ...

Torres had better physical attributes than Suarez. Torres, to me, was quicker and stronger than Suarez. Torres had immense skill.

Suarez was a phenomenally skilful player. Much better than Torres in that respect but lacked that extra level of pace and power.

If I was to build a striker it would physically be Torres with Suarez’s ability.

What? He broke down and never recovered. Physically he was frail as fuck.

While all of that is true. Torres was involved in one of my favourite (non trophy lifting moments) of recent years. Who can forget him being on the receiving end of a splendid bit of Agger induced thuggery on his Chelsea debut? I laughed so hard the gummy bears I was eating at the time started to come out of my nose.

Sami over Carra is a bit weird too, given he was already a bit of a part-time player when Torres joined us

Not even close to being a legend. He was ace for us to start with but he ultimately played more games for the Chavs than us and won nothing with us at all. Not really his fault that he carried so many of hopes on his back, but we were desperate for a hero then. He broke my heart. Feel a bit sorry for him nowadays.
