Doesn't surprise me that Cole was left out, don't think it has much to do with his ability. More to do with Hodgson preferring Baines in the starting line up and rather having an up and comer like Shaw behind him.

Lambert can actually play football though, going by what Hodgson has said recently about being to late to change his mind with a late run of form it looks like it will be Lambert, Lambert has had a good season and hasnt done anything wrong, Carroll hasnt really done much this season, it would be a big suprise now if he were to ditch Lambert for Carroll, would be extremely harsh.

Personally think the only blatent thing that Carroll has over Lambert is brute strength, Carroll is better in the air but Lambert is good in the air along with being better at everything else, Lambert is a clever player, his nous could come in handy along with his penalty taking.

Il'd rather see Lescott in place of Lampard if Jones and Smalling are the next centre backs in line, he hasnt played much but the centre back position is thin and he has done allright before, Lampard isn't needed, its a token gesture including him, the midfield is the strongest area of the squad.

Wilshire's one of those players I think will get picked regardless, because he's symptomatic of a large proportion of England supporters (including many in the media) prizing 'passion' above all else; which is why Sturridge can heavily outscore and outperform Rooney over the course of the last 18 months and still get shunted out of position to accommodate him.

Welbeck hasn't done much this season so would be strange for him to be given a place considering he mainly offers pace which the squad have from Studge and Sterling. Would have expected Lambert in there (or Jay Rod if he wasn't injured).

I haven't actually seen much of Utd this season but strange if both Smalling and Jones get the nod - I don't get the impression they have particularly performed well..
