I missed most of the game yesterday, so I just watched some highlights. I shouldn’t complain because we won, and honestly, if we disregard the first 20 or so minutes, we played well. Even Mo was OK.
But if we're going back to basics, to our old lineup, playing the same players from last season plus Ekitike (who’s about as useless as Nunez and Jota were between Gakpo and Salah), then this transfer window has been a complete disaster.
£400 million spent, with zero improvement, except maybe the keeper, who wasn’t even bought this summer. Ekitike will just be a body up front, he won’t get anything from Salah or Gakpo.
So I know I’m not the most positive poster on this forum, and yes, we just won, but this really irks me.
And where were the subs?! Was he so scared of losing that he couldn’t sub Salah for Chiesa, or maybe Gomez for Bradley, or Kerkez for Robbo? You know, use at least 3 of the 5 subs?
Well yeah Chiesa would have done more pressing higher up the pitch and Endo could have tightened things up and shit yeah... No-one we bought would have made any difference... That said, they will when we drop Salah. This being the year we're not dropping him yet, it makes sense to transition slowly instead of in bulk.
