Post Match EPL Man U (H) 1-2 Sunday 4:30pm Oct 19th

It reminds me of the set up at Man U the last couple of seasons. Two so called wingers who like to finish themselves, a striker in the middle who never gets played in, thus deemed a failure.

Add to this:

We had with out most successful recent attack, Mane and Salah, with an unselfish deep lying center forward who tied things together.

Now, we put a player in the middle, Isak, who is used to be the main man, to get played in and finish, with Salah and Gakpo who do the same.

It is so obvious that it won't work.

Exactamundo.
Slot probably thought that having Wirtz would magically fix that. It didn't.
Then he tries Szobo there, who can't play a through ball to save his life, and he instead keeps trying to find Salah on the right.

Against Southampton he plays the only winger we have who isn't a cut in merchant, and boom two assists.

A little early to be saying that I think. A decent run in the league and things can easily change.

It’s not the attacking power he have that’s the issue, it’s the players behind them. If the sorts that, things will improve
The attacking power is hardly delivering a load of goals either. 12 games in (total) and defensively we look shambolic and the manager doesnt look to have any answers on improvement. Our luck looks to have run out and the manager is being shown up. Not dropping Salah is a disgrace.

Maybe I was a little OTT but another 5 games of this dross and decisions need to be made with management.

If we get beat tomorrow it'll be the first time in fifty years we've lost five on the spin, and the boss man doesn't seem to know what he's doing. I declare a week long amnesty on all melties.

Although playing Wirtz kinda did fix that, and when we stopped playing Wirtz it kinda stopped working.

I still believe the balance was suboptimal when he was on - but maybe we should be addressing the other positions and not the just take Wirtz off the pitch.

For me he continues to pass the 'eye test'.

I blame the cut-in merchants.
Sometimes a simple pass to the free guy in the middle is the right option.
They're both just blind to it and we've been fine with it when they're scoring. The problem now is partly that our opponents are on to them.

I think Gakpo is getting a little too much stick for cutting in.

He overdoes it and should mix it up more, but he is hitting the target (or getting shots on target blocked) than any other player.

Salah deserves the grief, because he has been cutting in and hitting wide or over.
