We hit the post 3 times. Salah, Cody and Isak missed sitters. The goalie didnt gave to do much because we created good chances and our players couldn't even hit the target.
No, but playing Chiesa more will expose his flaws more. He has made some nice contributions when we are throwing the kitchen sink to win games. But it is a whole new ballgame when a player starts. Chiesa's touch, balance, and decision-making are top-notch. But there are still doubts if he can perform at that level for a full 90 minutes in the PL.
Of course, when Salah is stinking the place out, Slot should atleast give Chiesa a chance at the 50-minute mark or so.
He played 90 mins against Southampton and was MOM. A game where other established first team players were shit.
Unfortunately, that's all we have to go by because Slot has decided to act like a prick.
I agree Slot should have managed Chiesa's minutes better. I don't think he is the answer in a high-intensity PL game for 90 minutes.
Not even convinced we needed another winger. The priorities were the spine. Remove any of the key 5 players who played CB and CM last season (VVD, Ibu, Macca, Gravy, Szobo) and the drop off is too big. This means we don't rotate enough, and they get run into the ground.
Slot is complaining that teams "play differently against us" - but we could easily be setting up the same as we did last season and just utilise the upgrades we have in personnel either at full back, or up front, to make a difference.
It is all just too confusing at the moment - not a single person can explain how Slot is trying to get this team to play
So what is the answer then?
I hate to sound obtuse, but we're talking about a Euro winner who played for top teams in Italy.
Keep giving him 10-15 min cameos?
Don't know. I have never claimed to have the answers or deep insight into our tactics. A better distribution of minutes between Salah, Frimpong, and Chiesa.
Yeah I feel like there is a weird narrative around Chiesa. He was a top top player pre injury - he hasn't stopped working hard to get fit and when he is on the pitch he makes things happen. He was scapegoated after we lost to Plymouth - a game that Diaz, Jota, Endo, Elliot, Gomez all played in too.
Quite simply is a well proven top player, who is in-form and we are leaving to join us late on in games when they are arguably beyond saving.
Stats wise, our two most in-form players are Chiesa & Ekitike.
"Eye wise" I think Wirtz, Jones & Szobo are the most in-form.
Look at those 5 players. 4 started on the bench, and another was chucked to RB (and ultimately made a terrible decision from a throw in - something he shouldn't be taking).

We got rid of Nunez, Diaz, and, unfortunately, lost Jota. We needed to start finding a replacement for Salah's impact. One thing Klopp understood more than any other manager we had was that great attackers can compensate for the deficiencies of a functional midfield. One of the reasons we won the league last year was that we had options on the bench who made an impact when they came on - Nunez against Brentford, for example.
I don't think the problem is that we focused too much on attackers. The problem is that our attackers have not gelled yet. If Wirtz, Isak, and Ekitike live up to their promise, we will compete for the PL.
Agreed but in the same measurements Hugo should've passed two of the shots he had, players were free in the box.
This did my head in so often yesterday. Absolutely no one coming close to offer options or link the play. All just ready to dart in behind for a ball that was never coming.
Which is ironic given how much the baldy fraudy is complaining about long balls in his press conferences

Was saying it back then and still saying it now that we should have sold Salah two seasons ago... Noticed that he was shot then and alot of you are begin to realise it now
If we sold Salah 2 seasons ago we wouldn't have won #20.
I think we should have cashed in this past summer. But my problem isn't Salah in the team, it is that he is on an untouchable pedestal at a point in his career where his work rate is significantly down and he is a lot more predictable.
Nah we should have had his contracted sorted before last season and sold him this summer.
Why wouldn’t we have done it? His replacement could’ve added goals and assists whilst contributing to other areas of our game. Who knows.
We also couldn’t cash in last summer as it would’ve been a free. No way he would have signed that deal and left 2 months later.
That was bizarre. I'm sure even at one point Van Dijk had the ball & we had all 6 midfielders & attackers lined up across their back 5.
This sort of stuff makes me think Slot is hasn't a clue.
Maybe we would have won it inspite of him
