Liverpool are considering the possibility of fielding two teams in two competitions on the same day, with their Carabao Cup quarter-final against Aston Villa and Club World Cup semi-final potentially clashing. (Mirror)

Why not 3 teams and rest the main men for the league / CL?

send the under 16’s away for the FIFA nonsense or if their mummies won’t let them register a bunch of overweight middle aged randoms from a fan forum or somewhere sad like that.

Do I have time to get my passport updated?
Are you getting the beers for halftime or are we going in rounds?

The fume will explode with those comments. Apparently we should just get on with it.

Apparently we knew the schedule at the start of the season so it’s our fault this has happened.

More specifically, or at least according the experts at Blue Moon, it is our fault for winning the Champions League last season.

Lets face it, we deserve exactly what we are getting.

Here’s a bonkers solution. Make the upcoming Villa game BOTH league and Cup at the same time! If the game is drawn after 90 minutes, the penalties will decide who will progress in the cup. It’s like a codeshare flight operated by 2 airlines - you’re physically in one plane, but it’s technically two flights with separate codes, prices etc.

You've cracked it!

I expect to die during or shortly after my first sprint so probably best not to get involved in rounds. Do you have a valid Greggs rewards card? You can probably fly to Qatar on that.

I don`t eat at Greggs (My Body is the size of a Temple)

You didn`t say there would be sprinting so unless I can be the keeper I will have to declare myself unavailable 🙁

This hasn't gotten nearly enough love.

Not a chance. I like Klopps idea of scrapping two legged semis for one off semis. Everyone wins.

The two legs is stupid anyway

Oh really ? - so it is our fault for not buying more senior players at 25M+ each just in case this scenario took place ? - you know what ? - I wish Arsenal were not so shit then maybe we would be out of this cup altogether.

I'd split the team equally - give the CwC team ALlisson and VvD and Firmino and Salah or Mane.
We have enough midfielders to make both squads decent ... and then we try win both.

So that's a big 'fuck you' to the league cup then. Essentially saying we're puling out if they've refused to help us, and we'll just field the kids and the can shove it. I think that's sensible. You should be able to opt in/out of the shit thing anyway. Either that or they incentivise it and the FA with a champions league spot and cup winners cup spot or something. You only make peanuts from it aswell if you win it.

Youngsters in the Carabao Cup,they deserve another opportunity.
If they lose there is no shame in it and it will be another big experience.
CWC is one we don't have and should prioritise.

You do realise we will play a half strong team, etc in the carabo cup qtr final and a half strong team in the semi final of the World Club Cup

We will then have the rest of our 1st team players fly out after the carabo cup ready for the final

The question is, which is the easier game?

The CWC semi final against the Asian/African/North American champions? Or the CC against Villa away?

If it's the CWC, perhaps we can play a strong side against Villa and then make them fly out and play the final should we get there. Otherwise let them stay at home and prepare for Leicester.

To be honest though, we've won the CC plenty of times, so i'd prefer us to win the CWC. Either way, the most important game in that period is Leicester away and then Wolves at Home. Those are the games that really matter. Hopefully the team are not jetlagged going into those fixtures.

No. That's exactly what we won't do. As has been said we will, rightly, put all of our first team squad into the CWC.

Aston Villa play "winnable" games vs. Sheff Utd (A) and Southampton (H) before and after the cup game. Prior to that, Villa have a run of league games vs. Man Utd, Chelsea and Leicester.

If it's a mixed strength team, we might stand some chance.

Meanwhile, last Dec's article

[article]The Club World Cup is a problematic competition for European and South American sides, with those teams participating either forced to interrupt their domestic season or, in the case of Brazilan teams, to play after their domestic campaign has wound up.

The annual tournament is still viewed as a showpiece among South American sides and those from other federations who do not often get to appear on a global platform, but it is not particularly attractive on the financial front for UEFA participants: the champions in the United Arab Emirates will pocket just five million euros, whereas a Champions League match win is worth 2.7 million. The champions of Europe this season will receive 19 million euros in prize money.

The losing finalists in Abu Dhabi will get four million euros, the third-placed side 2.5 million, and the fourth-placed team two million, with the wooden spoon coming with a financial reward of just 500,000 euros.

Attendance figures in UAE a concern for FIFA
The UAE is less of an odyssey than Japan, the previous hosts, but there is concern over the number of spectators this year’s edition can expect. There were just under 4,000 fans in the Hazza Zayed Stadium to watch Kashima Antlers against Guadalajara and according to FIFA figures the average attendance last year in the UAE for the Club World Cup was 16,571, considerably fewer than in Japan in 2016 when the average was 29,804.

That is the primary reason that FIFA president Gianni Infantino has proposed changing the format of the tournament to a competition taking place every four years with 24 participating teams.[/article]
