That's a good thing.

I don't think it is. New manager, new signings (maybe) and a new way of playing all need to be intigrated. As well as the fact that we're notoriously slow starters. Plus, come the end of the season, if we're needing points (hoping that Chelsea, City, United, Arsenal are in and around us) we will likely have to go to their grounds and get points there. Never easy.

Very tough start. I'd be happy with 10/11 points from that opening 6 games.

It's not only us that start slow, Arsenal were abysmal last season. Maybe we will come out like greyhounds this season now that the newer players have settled in. Hopefully well get 2 or 3 more to strengthen the wings and MF but I don't think we can expect major changes so the team is quite settled. Others may not be and if United, City and Arsenal have new players then I'd rather have them early before they build an understanding. Let's fact it, we'll be underdogs in two of those three matches anyway (and I like where our away matches against them are too ... shitty weather could help not hinder).

I don't mind a tough start and everybody is more or less in transition. If we can hit the ground running and get a few home wins under our belt from the start, we could be in for a massive season.

Hmm

Everton at home on May 4th, when we need a result to clinch No.19 is a potential banana skin, but one i am confident we can deal with

But if we have a poor start which is more probable then the pressure is on Rodgers and the players big time from the word go

This too. If he faces 2 or 3 defeats in those opening games, which, let's be honest, is quite the possibility, then the pressure is certainly on and some fans may turn against him and the players.

It's a really tough start, and we would have been better off with a few easier games to ease in the players, manager and fans alike.

I don't think so mate. I feel its different this time.
I am not convinced Stu.
Having witnessed how quick;y people turned on our previous manager I would be very nervous of the reaction to a bad start for Rodgers

I imagine there'll be new material for the RAWK meltdown twitter page with these new fixtures being announced.

Theres always going to be pressure at Liverpool regardless. A few wins will help ease that pressure. This pre-season will be absolutely critical. Thats where our tactics and shape will be formed. Interesting times ahead.

Anyone know when the sky fixtures for the first games are announced?
I am guessing that the Man City game will be a televised Sunday afternoon match

The issue is that's been plenty a time whereby the fixtures look 'managable' and more often than not bring about discussons on predictions about how many points we'll be able to get out of them. Gets me excited about the new season to be honest. 😛

STEVE Clarke admits he is 'excited' by the prospect of facing his former employers Liverpool on the opening day of the Barclays Premier League 2012/13 season.

The new Baggies boss will kick-off the first competitive game of his reign against the Reds at The Hawthorns on Saturday, August 18.

Clarke only left the Anfield club at the end of last month after an 18-month spell as assistant manager to Kenny Dalglish, which included February's Carling Cup Final win over Cardiff.

"I was delighted to see we were playing Liverpool," he said.

"I've got nothing but good memories from my time at Liverpool so to face them in the first game, here at The Hawthorns will be fantastic.

"It takes a lot to get me really excited but this morning I was excited."

Clarke is relishing the chance to stamp his mark on a team having been a No.2 in the top flight for more than ten years.

One of the men he worked under at Chelsea was Jose Mourinho, who has been in touch via text to wish him well with his new job.

And Clarke also revealed he spoke to former Baggies boss and ex-Chelsea team-mate Roberto Di Matteo before putting pen to paper on his Hawthorns deal.

"I've had a text message from Jose," he added.

"He's on holiday right now so I don't want to bother him.

"Liverpool and Chelsea had a couple of important games towards the end of last season and I spoke to Roberto then.

"Before the league game at Anfield I sat and had a good chat with him about his time at Chelsea.

"And when I knew I had the chance to get the job here I spoke to him about the club, and he had really good things to say about Albion and the people at the club."

We'll have improved our squad before that. LONG before that.

Ok, maybe not long before, it but before it.

The new PR people will need to work hard to play down expectations and maintain some support for Rodgers, because it'll only take a couple of losses at the start to trigger the 'crisis' coverage. Rodgers has been asked to develop the playing style and sort out the squad, and so he deserves serious help to manage the pressure in the opening few weeks.
