Florian and the (Slot) Machine

If we do get Wirtz over the line, I'm really looking forward to the Salah, Wirtz, Frimpong combinations on the right, gonna be sick.
Don’t forget @Bradley and his underlapping runs. One thing everyone says about Frimpong is that he will hold the width and free up Salah to move inside… well, does Mo really need “freeing up?” He’s been pretty bloody effective playing the way he does, maybe he actually prefers to have the extra space he’s afforded when receiving the ball very wide rather than in congested areas closer to the middle.

The advantage of Bradley is that he loves making those underlapping runs, being a former midfielder and maybe Salah needs that more than someone on the outside.

Well Mo's not scoring from those wide positions - he always needs to cut inside and often loses possession trying to get into the box and into a goal-scoring position. If he were to receive the ball 5-7m further inside and with the FB's attention on Frimpong on the outside maybe that will lead to more attempts from viable goal-scoring positions and less frequently losing possession?

We've seen that from Bradley who often over-laps onto passes from Mo., as well as driving through the midfield.

Guess we'll have to wait and see!

Ultimately defences will have to choose to mark Mo or Frim. At present Mo has been mostly double marked, any player in the world will thrive with more space.

One challenge will be how open our players are to passing to Frim / Bradders when Mo is also out wide. His aura / ego in a game doesn’t look being overlooked for passes.

Saw a German video this morning which said the deal should be completed by midweek - fee 120 to 140 mill.euros with discussions continuing about an unnamed LFC player going to Leverkusen as part of the deal.

I do wonder how much value we'll place on Elliott or Quansah. Any valuation would need to reflect what a Premier League club would be willing to pay, however unpalatable that might be for a club like Leverkusen. As a starting point, Elliott’s value has to be at least £10-15 million more than whatever we received for Carvalho. Even after a quiet season, he’s still more established than Fabio ever was.

It’s more of a general observation, but the Premier League being its own financial bubble does make selling abroad a bit more complicated. The reality is that many European clubs simply don’t see the same value in signing players from the Premier League, and few could argue they're wrong. It's been funny seeing McTominey buck that trend, winning league titles in Italy whilst United flounder about the relegation zone, though.

£40m minimum for Harvey & Quansah in my book with Badger, Morton & Doak more like £20m - should we want to sell.

We apparently want at least £50m for both Elliot and Qansah, we told clubs in Jan that Doaks price was £35m, Morton will prob be about £15m - we're not a charity case and I think those prices are probably a true and fair reflection

What are they smoking over at Anfield?

After the season's they'd had Quansah and Harvey are 30-35m tops. You have to consider the clubs we'd be selling to......bottom half Prem sides, nobody there are breaking their transfer record to land these players.

English premium.

Usually applies when smaller clubs look to shaft the bigger clubs, mainly the senseless ones in Chelsea and Utd.

Can you really see us getting close to 100m for Harvey and Quansah?

Yes, I can actually. Newcastle wanted Quansah last summer and we told them no, they then pivoted to Gomez for £30m plus. Now if an injury prone Gomez's asking price is £30m plus then you can better believe that the price is higher for Quansah. As for Elliott, Carvallho went for what last summer? £27.5m according to Transfermarket, I'd say it's pretty feasible to get £50m or as close to it for him. And if the rumours are true about Wolves and Newcastle wanting him, then yep.

I would be shocked. Quansah is still unproven and a young fringe player for us - £35m tops. Elliott ditto on all counts IMHO.

Leverkusen are testing our patience a little here aren't they - 150m is an absolute shaft, don't care how good this player potentially is.

Can see another Caicedo situation playing out here, end up hightailing it and going for Simons and Stiller instead.....and tbh I don't see us being any worse off for it.
