Florian and the (Slot) Machine

I like Cherki - he is supremely talented, but there have always been concerns about his attitude and work rate. Wirtz on the other hand - supremely talented and also a monster runner off the ball. He is better than Musila, Bellingham, Olise, Palmer for me.

I'd put him in the Yamal bracket as the two best attacking midfielders in the world over the next 5 years. You add Wirtz, and I think you're almost guaranteeing trophies - I'd very happily pay 120 million for him, even if meant not signing a striker. He's that good tbh.

The only issue of course is we never win any of the transfer 'battles' - we simply can't compete financially. I have no doubt we'd be happy to pay the transfer fee, but City's starting point for wages would be 400k, whereas we'd start the bidding at 200k. Chelsea will also come in and offer an 8 year contract. Can't compete with that sort of nonsense, and we always end up failing with these sort of transfers.

You're right but he does seem to have a good head on his shoulders judging by these quotes. He at least sounds the sort that will consider the whole project and offer rather than just the pay day.

That shaped me. It was important to my parents that I didn't do anything nonsensical with my salary. That's why they still help me to invest my money wisely today. I was never the type to buy flashy things. And it was also always important to my family that I didn't lose my grip on things."

Mastantuano apparently wants / is waiting for Real. If another club does end up signing him, he'll likely always have one eye on a move to Real in the future.

I’m not sure how sold i am on Wirtz unless he’s bought to play behind a new number 9

I remember him being a bit average in the Leverkusen CL game. The one where Diaz got a hat trick. Maybe an unfair way to judge him but i didn’t leave then thinking we needed him in the team
 
We absolutely still need a 9, even with wirtz

If we signed him, I'd just play him as a false 9, flanked by Diaz/Gakpo and Salah playing narrow, Szoboszlai supporting from behind, and Frimpong providing pace out wide right.

You frankly don't need a 9 when you have THAT much pace and creativity. City walked the league a few years ago without a striker - this would be a similar set-up.

I'd probably avoid going for a LB like Kerkez if we go down this route. Could really start thinking of someone like Murillo for the LB role, with a view to transition him to CB once VVD retires.

In possession, you'd have 3 tanks at the back (Konate, VVD, Murillo) protected by a 2-man pivot, and the rest absolutely running riot in the final third.
 
I can see value, even at a very high transfer fee - immediate first teamer and only 22. Will contribute 20-30 G/As every season for years.

I have to agree, I think he is more hype tgan talent. Even for Germany in the last tournament he did not stick out that well.
He is no where near as good as Musiala. The way people are going on, he has to be a player that impacts every game, clearly he does not.
