Forward or a defender

Say Rafa has enough budget left for a good defender or a good forward, but wont buy both - What would you rather we go for?

We're obviously short at the back with Agger never fit, Carra is going to need resting a bit more this season, and Skrtel needing a new head maybe.
And the obvious applies to Torres when he gets broken/rested this season - We've got Voronin or maybe Kuyt to stand in for him when he's out. Not the best.

Forward or a Defender?

In an ideal world we'd buy a versatile defender and a versatile forward. A forward is easily the priority though. Voronin is going, Kuyt is now a winger, Babel and N'Gog aren't good enough, so..

Dublin/Sutton

I don't buy into this we've only got one forward argument. I'm not saying we shouldn't bring in more attacking options, of course we should. But we have got Kuyt who scored all this goals up front last season, and then Yossi Benayoun who's making undropable with some great performances, and he fits perfectly into the spot vacated by Dirk.

I wanted Silva and/or Bent at the start of the summer. I really hope we get someone who can make a difference.

If we were buying one then obviously I would prefer a forward.

Although I don't think Voronin is as terrible a back up as many others think it does smack of desperation a little that someone who was clearly surplus to requirements before has now become part of the squad again. Its not like he was sent off on loan to gain experience, it was because we didn't want him.

Forward, obv.

Ayala and worst case scenario Johnson can cover CD.

We need an attacking player, more so now that Alonso has been sold, as I really think Gerrard is gonna be required to play deeper in the CM role this season.

We've got 3 centre backs and 3 youths if needs be.
We've got Torres, Kuyt, Babel, Voronin and of course Gerrard, with N'gog, Nemeth, Pacheco and about 4 other youth forwards.
What we need is someone to load the bullets. I believe Yossi can do that, but if we have money for ONE player and just one i'd still want a Silva, Sneijder or someone of that ilk more than anything else.

Injuries can derail anyones season, but if you take United as an example when Brown, Ferdinand, Vidic etc are out, they trust Fabio, Evans, Rafael etc to fill in and do a job. Likewise when they were short up front, they trust Macheda, Welbeck or whoever to fill in.
We cant get pre-occupied on what ifs. We need to make sure that we can cope in the area we are weakest INCLUDING youth backups. We have Gerrard and Yossi to link up and thats it. Theres no one behind those two in our squad so thats where id hope to see us strengthen. That will also improve most other areas because Yossi can then cover Left and Right, Gerrard can cover in the middle etc.
Creativity > Guile > everything else.

I think seeing as we can take Agger being injured always, that if we lose Carra or Skrtel - We're royally fucked.

If/when Torres gets injured/rested - We're also royally fucked.

I think we can afford to lose any of the above for 1 or 2 games etc, but if they're out for a month or something, we do not have the resources to cope. Quality resources anyway.

Thats a very good post Andy. I find myself agreeing with a lot of your posts of late. 🙂

A Silvaesque signing and we're laughing!

Anyone who isn't retardedRafa would pick the former.

We are skint or at least if we are not skint their is absolute no excuse for a couple of cunts STILL FFS running round yesterday in Liverpool shirts.

We badly badly need an attacking player, its not just for when Torres is injured its also for when Torres and Stevie are shite.

I'd suggest that they don't have to cost 20M or nothing silly, they don't even have to be a current spanish international, but they cannot be just "one for the future" and they must be able to play NOW. Whatever Rafas scouts are doing they dont seem to be finding much.

I might add that Spurs had 4 proper strikers all of a fairly decent standard, we only have one and he looks fucking Jiggered tired to my eyes. Spurs will not finish top 5.

According to the mirror, we are officially skint, so forget about anymore signing. Be prepared for more leaving! LOL

Tuncay, i'd still want him.

I'd take him for no more than £10M.
