General UK politics

Appreciate the local's sentiment defending it for lack of integration.
Yes integrate with unfriendly locals and join in the local looting and racist behaviour. This need for constant integration feels rather one way.
Guess it's that time of year I guess, summer of riot.

Might break up the left vote, might be easier to form a coalition.
Maybe create a challenge to reform for hate labour and conservative voters.

Alternatively he ain't interested!

Its just handing the keys to the abhorrent Reform party.

It was always going to be a long shot, but the BNP.. I mean Reform.. are going to fuck us up for at least 5 years.

Wheres my suitcase?

Labour are doing a good enough job on that. I won’t be voting for my Labour MP looking how he’s voted this past week. His record doesn’t align with my values.

I think it is a thing, but she just went ahead and launched it.

I'd take a guess that anything involving Corbyn would take endless discussion over constitutions, structures and rules. They've probably been stuck in the tedious detail for about a year already, so I can see why she would have got bored of that, but it probably would have been a good idea to at least decide on the name of the party before announcing it.

I suspect something will go ahead but knowing what the left is like, it could just as easily end up with two new parties in a kind of Life of Brian/People's Front of Judea type scenario.

Either way could be quite amusing though I suppose.

Yup, best of luck.
Maybe some kind of alternative will be good
But equally like Nomad says it may hand keys to Farage.

Maybe, maybe not.

They would need a serious amount of financial backing before they made any big inroads like that. Obviously any kind of principles go out the window in politics when they become inconvenient, but they would at least be a little uneasy with taking money from wealthy donors, so they would need to find either big union money or mass membership money. The former is historically problematic. The latter takes time.

Also worth remembering that the people who vote Reform are not all former Tories by any stretch. A lot of them are former Labour voters who might feel more comfortable voting for a new lefty party.

The other thing that might, might just start being an issue when the next election comes around is non-delivery and incompetence from Reform. They will have controlled Councils for a while by then, 'DOGE' won't have achieved anything, they will have closed things, taxed things, messed things up and probably had various levels of fall-outs.

The leisure centre attack was in Larne but I don't want to steal @StevieM thunder.

Totally missed this.

It was fucking awful by the way.

Anyway, I see the follow up involved putting boats with effigies of refugees in them on top of the 11th night bonfires along with effigies of Kneecap and Irish flags, etc

The place seems to be getting worse rather than better - whole place has a general feeling of being run down to fuck, but I can’t really speak on much authority outside of Larne.

Paramilitaries - well the proddy ones, have just moved into more protection rackets and drug dealing.

Are we seeing what is called "the end of the uniparty" in the UK?

It's doesn't seem a stretch to think many voters will 'try something different' next time.

I suppose that if you increase the population by 10 million+ in the last two decades it's not entirely surprising that the infrastructure begins to degrade as available funds are spread thinner.

Everybody can see the lack of housebuilds, the potholes in the road, the reduction in local authority services etc

To upgrade all infrastructure needs money and the markets won't lend except at high rates currently as they seem nervy about the chance of seeing money well spent.

Above all it needs political will and (in my opinion) the traditional parties are hamstrung due to their respective ideologies (we see this in numerous EU states as well), it needs shock treatment that new entities can provide.

It's grand here, just the same oul shite at certain times of the year.
It's also pretty hilarious that one side is supporting Palastine while the other Israel. So now in some spots we have four countries flags on lamposts .

The system looks fucked, but we knew at the time that the Cameron Osborne govt announced austerity back when money was cheap that this was going to happen, and that it was ideological. These dickheads are doing the same and yes it's a uni party. The thing is, the so called different option Reform are accelerationists of that same ideology, it's just what we've had sped up instead of a pushback against it. While there is no other option being proposed by the left all we're going to get is an ever growing land grab from the have nots to the have. We're seeing it now in the states and we're about five years behind.
