HULL City could be set to land a goalkeeper who is primed for Championship football if Peter Gulacsi agrees to pen a season-long loan move to the KC Stadium.
Whilst there has been no official comment from the Tigers, the Mail understands the 21-year-old Liverpool shot-stopper will be present when pre-season training starts next week.
Having spent 17 league games on-loan at Tranmere in League One last season, the Hungarian is now seen to be ready for regular football at a higher level by the coaches at Anfield.
And with Tigers boss Nigel Pearson needing two new keepers, he is poised to challenge for the number one shirt in the forthcoming campaign.
According to James Pearce, a football reporter at the Liverpool Echo, he is highly thought of by Reds boss Kenny Dalglish but needs to gain more experience before he is seen as a viable rival to Pepe Reina at Anfield.
"I saw a lot of him last season at Tramnere and the lad is an exciting talent," he said.
"I know Kenny thinks a lot of him and when he became boss at Anfield, Gulacsi was immediately promoted to Reina's number two in place of Brad Jones.
"That meant he was on the bench for most games towards the end of the season and he didn't get the match practice he needed.
"It was always on the cards that he would be sent out on loan this summer and Hull City are getting themselves a solid goalkeeper."
At 21, agility is no problem for the 6ft 3ins Under-21 international, but Pearce says there's far more to the keeper's game.
He added: "He impressed everyone at Tranmere with his shot-stopping ability.
"He's also a big guy who commands the box very well.
"He will do a great job at Hull and they couldn't have got a better man for the job."
Gulacsi first came to the attention of Pearson and chief scout Steve Walsh when playing for the Reds' reserves following his arrival from Hungarian side MTK.
The duo regularly monitored the Anfield second string when in charge of Leicester, which is how they first scouted and signed defender Jack Hobbs.
Having played in the same youth team as Gulacsi on Merseyside, Hobbs' arrival at the KC Stadium this week means he will now be in familiar company if he finalises the switch.
The pair know each other well and have even played against each other, when Hobbs was at Leicester and Gulacsi was loaned to Hereford.
Having seen the giant keeper impress at the Bulls, where he made a decent display in a 3-1 defeat to Leicester at Edgar Street back in 2009, Pearson has kept a close eye on his progress.
He now looks set to arrive at the Tigers as part of the deal which has secured a pre-season clash against Liverpool at the KC on July 23.
CITY are also continuing to be linked with a move for Newcastle keeper Fraser Forster, with recent reports in the north east suggesting he could also join on a season-long loan.
The 23-year-old was the subject of a £1.5m bid by Celtic earlier this summer, but the Toon Army see him as a long-term number one and do not want to sell him.
However, manager Alan Pardew is not keen to loan him out to the SPL giants again because he feels he will face more of a test in the Championship.
