Have we got big money then?

So it would seem.

It's all speculation at the minute, so it's difficult to tell either way, but I like what I'm hearing in that we're targeting young up and coming players from the Premiership and (hopefully) good talent from abroad too with a willingness to pay top money.

I'm sure Rosco will disagree and I don't think as a club we're minted, nor do I think that the owners are in the healthiest of positions in comparison to some of our rivals, but I do think there's a statement of intent going on and an opportunity to give us a 'leg up' is being realised.

We're linked with dozens of players in every window so I'm reluctant to get carried away and I'm not being drawn on speculation in the press at this stage, what will be will be and I'm not fretting at the beginning of June because we seem to be going all out for a lad from the North East most people have barely heard of. For once though I don't feel the trepidation I normally feel at this time of year. No major International tournament to deal with would probably explain why, but I'm also eagerly looking forward to a new look Liverpool.

In the King we must trust, he's got a vision....

I do think we have the money Mark. The frustrating thing is now we to appear to be financially well off, the lack of European football might hinder our chances of bagging our first choice signings. That said, I still trust Kenny to have us challenging regardless.

It seemed to be Commoli's MO at Spurs too, c.f. Bale, Dawson, Lennon, Jenas etc. Hope who we sign will end up better than them though.

Fair dos. I think there's an enormous sense of the unknown. When we spent in January we spent what we received, anything other than that on the back of G&H would have caused uproar, but it was also a big PR exercise aswell in signing Carroll for big money. That said, we were in for Suarez anyway and heavily interested in Adam, so there was obviously money there.

I think I'm less inclined to trust Kenny implicity than others it seems, which probably places me in a very small minority. I'm not overly impressed with our targets so far - although I have to admit thats in no small part down to the fact that I've seen little of them - and I'm still to be convinced by Carroll.

I'm cautiously optimistic, but will wait anxiously to see it all come together next season before jumping for joy about anything.

I trust him more because I think he'll concentrate more on having us playing as an attacking team, so it's not necessarily essential that every player that comes in has to be a Suarez, just that they fit his tactics of good pass and move football and improve us. That said I'm not getting carried away with anything (as you said). Let's just see how it unfolds.

The only person I trust at the club is Dalglish.

The jury will be out on FSG and Comolli for a long time no matter what they manage in the summer.

It's no big surprise that FSG have just announced they're going to be getting the vast majority of gate receipts for the whole season in July. They like to see money in before they shell out.

I trust Kenny totally as a man, and as a man-manager. I trust Steve Clarke as a coach. But a Kenny-Commoli partnership as transfer decision-makers? Why would anyone have *absolute trust* in that? They've both made good transfers in the past, and they've both made some terrible ones too.

This summer will be every bit as risky as previous summers.

What manager is 100% successful in the transfer market anyways. It is an inherently risky business.

I think we're obviously seeking to sign good players but whether we can seal the deal with them or not is a different matter. We're very transitional at the moment and can't offer European football. Depends if we can sell the 'project' or not.

Zackly.

Overall, you have to speak as you find, and I reckon the new regime's made a good start.

It's kinda 50/50 at the moment isn't it.
Suarez is amazing no doubt, Jury is still out on Carroll though isnt it.

I guess, but I was looking at it more widely. Do the actions taken by Kenny and his oppos and also by the owners suggest we're in good hands overall? IMO they do. We're still a work in progress, but we're definitely progressing.

Too much importance is being placed on the fact that we can't offer Europa League football. Given it's current format, I doubt many players could give a shite.

I agree.

Not being in the Champions League is a potential issue, but even that is not always a problem.

I would be very surprised if there are very many players who, if given the choice between signing for us or signing for a club that is in the Europa League, would go for the other club based purely on that

True, but we're not competing with Birmingham for most of our transfer targets, are we? We're competing with Man Utd, Arsenal etc. And they're in the Champions League. Doesn't make it impossible to sign the best players, but it definitely makes it harder.

Yup in terms of general running of the club, and the club image it has certainly improved.
Having said that it would be flipping hard to get worse than G&H and Rafa airing dirty laundry through the media.

I think its important to look at the big picture and the season as a whole. We're building a squad that can challenge. That means a lot of players and we wont like all of them. But the most important thing is getting the balance right and signing players that will make the team better with the right mix of individual skill and attributes.

And, not all we're linked with are real targets either. A lot them are only smokescreens and the club now does the transfer dealing the old fashioned way.

It will be a great summer imho. And we'll be pleasently surprised by some of our signings.

Next year we will be challenging for 1st-3rd spot imho.

Answer to question, no.

By Chelsea, City and even Man U standard, we would have pittance.

We'll have as much to spend as ManUre. Besides, what counts is how it's spent, not simply the size of the kitty, especially with the new financial regs.coming in.

You really need to get a grip, Mike.

No team can compete with City and Chelsea financially. Not Real Madrid, not Barcelona, Bayern Munich, United or us. But you simply don't know what financial muscle we truly have as we haven't flexed it yet.

The amount of money spent is important, but our problem is mainly the fact that we spend it badly.

Not that we dont spend enough of it.

OK JJ, we have as much as Man U to spend but we do not have CL to offer!

*scratch twitchy bums*

So, thats possibly:

Jones 16 mill
Henderson 18 mill
Downing 16 mill
Wickham 10 mill

Sum: 60 mill

And then on top of that:

Adam 7 mill
Mata 18 mill
Left back 10 mill

Total: 95 mill

Thats a looooooooooot of money.
