The question is irrelevant. Getting £50m for Torres skewed everything. Look at it this way, £7m for Suarez and Carroll was good business.
that makes no fucking sense.
Actually it does, but i'll play along.

My point is this, had we not received £50m for Torres we wouldn't have spent £35m on Carroll. So if Torres' departure meant we were £7m down on replacing him with Suarez and Carroll, i'd say that's good business regardless of the fees paid for each individual player.

it's not 7 mill for them. it's torres -- one of the best players in the world -- plus 7 mill for them.

And Suarez isn't one of the best players in the world?

...is becoming your stock answer. It appears everyone else can see the point but you can't. Who'd have thought it?

1. Did we really really expect a 120% return on investment after 5 league games? Anyone who did needs to see a doctor

2. Is the argument skewed by the start made by the Manc clubs?

I love this we should of signed Mata, Aguero stuff. They have to want to come here folks! Lets face it, City or Chelsea and £100k plus a week plsu CL footy? Its not that hard to figure out.

Oh and EVERY manager buys expensive duffers. Benitez got enough shite for it as did Houllier. But this singling out of Carroll because of the fee is becoming stupid.

Enrique for £8m?
Adam for £7m?
Suarez for £20m?
Downing for £20m?

All good buys and will come good. As Dylan said the Carroll fee was dictated by several things. One the fee we got from Chelsea, two, we needed a striker before the window closed and three we needed a statement of intent. We got Suarez AND Carroll for £7m net after the sale of Torres.

Oh and Skully, yeah Torres, 1 goal in 30 odd games Torres? That Torres? He will come good but your argument is lame. Suarez gives us so much more than Torres at the moment.

Were did I say otherwise?
Is that not what you were insinuating there?

Give it a full season and then judge the players, that's fair.
Also worth noting henderson, Adam and downing were all in the top 8 for chances created last season, so there was certainly a method in the madness for purchasing them and only at the end of the season can we fairly judge if it 'was' madness.

Great post.

We also splashed the cash on Carroll because Kenny prob didn't think Suarez would be so fucking good. I was excited when we signed him but didn't realise he was gonna be amazing.

The Suarez signing was good. That said, im not exactly sure what he does.
The Carroll signing looks a poor one. I wanted him, but i must say he looks a shadow of the player he did. And 35m was ridiculous.
The Adam signing wasnt good. Hes not very good.
The Henderson signing was ridiculous. Indulgent shite.
The enrique signing looks a good one.
The Downing signing looks a decent enough choice to me.
The issue is the 35m and 18m in the middle there.
We so should have spent that better.

The worst of the bunch for me is Henderson.
We needed a Sofa and we got a 'grow your own sofa' kit.
We should have bought a sofa. A defensive one. With balls.

And (I know everyone will hate me for this) WE SHOULD HAVE KEPT MEIRELES.
The day he left was the day i wanted to take the fucking bunting down. Since he left.
2 x Defeats. I know im being mischieveous and its not about him leaving but we needed him and we should have stopped him leaving.

Haha I remember the thread during last day of the window.

Best transfer window ever

"Meireles sold to Chelsea"

Terrible transfer window
That was basically my feeling.
There were conversations last year when i felt we had a really good side and would go top four. Then we sold Mascherano and ripped the arse out of our season.
Same again this year.

Selling Meireles was a fucking joke and someone should publicly apologise for it.

Bollocks.

We've brought in Carroll, Enrique, Adam, Henderson, Downing and Bellamy because they have Premier League experience hence them hitting the ground running is expected.

Fed up of this needing a season to settle in shite. Good footballers should be able to make an impact straight away, especially ones with experience in this League.

I'm not slating any of them. Just take issue with your comment about these players needing a season before they can be judged. They'll be judged in every game, whether it's the first game of the season or last... just the way it is.

Not that it's all down to the new lads to get us 4th place.

carroll - CF
enrique - LB
downing - LW
henderson - RW
adam - CM

I think it IS all down to the new lads to get us 4th place

It's not who we bought.

It's who we let go.
^
Im gonna go ahead and add (something ive been harping on about since pre-season) who we dont seem to want to play.

MaxiRodriguez.jpg

So not even half the team then. Stop spouting shite(unless you're on a wind up here).

I'm not playing down their importance. We've invested a shitload of money in them and they'll play a big part. However it's not ALL down to them.

Maybe we should have given Roy Hodgson a full season too bedew judging him?

Give me a break, if something is as obvious as day infront of me, I'm gonna acknowledge it.

We should have played Spearing today, he's the only proper DM we have, he would have been tighter on their CM's and would have broken the play up a bit. Instead of Hendo who just ran around like a headless chicken all afternoon.

Oh this thread is like Mana for me.
Spearing, Kuyt, Maxi.
All SHOULD be in our starting line up.
Hendershite and Adumb should not.

here's a sobering thought - who'd you have, either:

kuyt
maxi
meireles
spearing

or

carroll
downing
henderson
adam

we've spent an awful lot of money for a pretty marginal improvement, imo.

Its like having Brendan back with the nicknames.

Kuyt should be in there, and Gerrard in for Adam. Its like Onky said we've changed to many players when we didnt really have to since the end of last season. We look like strangers at times, and we are...
Genuinely the first lot for me. Especially if you throw in my Alberto.
We spent 70m on that lot. SEVENTY MILLION to marginally decrease the age and skill of the squad.
Fuck me.
