I have no axe to grind with Henderson. He's a good player, gives everything and comes across as a very decent bloke.

I've got a mate I went to journalism school with who works for as a sports journo in a radio station up north and he told me about a year ago that the concern inside Anfield is that he's never gonna be right as this is a career threatening recurring injury.
Take from that what you want, but my mate has been very reliable in the past.

Great bloke and hes thrown in some amazing performances but yeah, hopefully we invest big time in the midfield irrespective of him finding fitness and form this summer

He could certainly be a starter in our midfield but he shouldn't be the ceiling or best we've got.

He isn't rated by many - but our team looks exponentially better when he is on the pitch. Yes - like with literally every single position, we could upgrade. But from our squad he is a stand out midfielder and we are seeing from Can/ Lucas/ Gini the evidence of that.

Every fool can see it. Lucas / Can do not offer anything like Henderson's skill set and we've suffered for it.

I said that when it was first diagnosed - because its true.

Plantar fasciitis is up there with the worst diagnoses you can get as an athlete. Because the cure is rest.

Excluding any long term complications, if all it does is cause pain then surely it doesn't matter whether or not it is curable. All that matters is Henderson has a reason to sacrifice his body and soldier through the games. Does he have a kid? I'd send someone to his kid's nursery, or maybe bribe the teacher, train the kid to ask "Daddy, why don't you play football anymore?" with a pained expression on its face. The cunt will go through all of the predictable human emotions, guilt, shame, anger, he'll be back in the squad within a week.

But it has a cumulative effect - managing the injury requires reducing the amount of time he can train. If he plays a game he might need two to three days before he can run again so his training has to be pared back.

That has consequences for his overall fitness levels. And if there's a flare up that requires total rest, he then starts off a low base when he returns and has to regain fitness more slowly than others because his workload has to be carefully managed.

Its as difficult as tight rope walking.

Oh then he is doomed. Even if we managed to walk that tight rope, which would be a miracle for our medical team, he'd only get called up by the incompetent FA and fall at their hands. He is doomed.

I love Henderson, he's an absolutely sensational player in my eyes, but this injury has really held him back, obviously he's missing games, but as Rosco has alluded to, it's preventing him from working, training and player as much as he could, he's losing momentum and not pushing on as far as a result. The sad truth is if he can't persistently play next season, we have to bring in a player ahead of him who can, and I say that as probably his biggest fan on the site.

You can only think how many games he will miss when we're in Europe next year. We could not have played many less games this year. I don't think he's finished but we certainly need cover in that position unless Can develops. For me the holding midfielder needs to be more defensive minded than Henderson as good as he is. The defence is just too exposed.
