223 appearances, 60 goals. That's surely not a bad record. But he is technically probably one of the worst first-choice strikers we've ever had.

So, what do people remember Heskey as?

First full season he was brilliant. After that I remember a miss against Utd at home which sums him up I think, hopeless.
Was one of those players that lacked confidence and bottled it.
Shame cause he had all the physical attributes to dominate any CB. Was never a goalscorer though.
One season wasnt enough. Zero for me.

But he was also weak. Mentally weak. One game I made it to anfield for in the dog days of the Houllier era made me want to kill him. 1-1 against Villa with minutes to go and he's doing that rubbing his back thing, with a big sad look on his face, chewing up time in which we desperately needed a goal. If I had a rifle that day I would have shot him. No questions about it. He did that shit all the time, Feeling sorry for himself, looking soppily at the ref when he wasn't getting decisions. Kinda like Torres in the moany cunt era without the goal danger.

Something Martin O'Neill said always stuck in the mind with Heskey.

He said that his first touch of the game would often dictate how he played, bad first touch = bad game, good first touch = good game.

If that really was true then what a weak shithouse.

Definately not a hero but a zero is probably a little harsh on him, fuck knows.

Zero, he really wasn't very good at all.

I never really liked that Houllier team tbh, and Heskey seems to sum up its ugliness and lack of finesse, although he also managed to be ineffectual, too.

First season was outstanding for us and helping us to win trophies.

His last 2 seasons were quite dire, should have been put out of misery earlier.

He did tons of stuff in Liverpool that never got air time, visited schools every week and so on, I really wanted him to do good.

Hero to Zero. He hits both ends. Started well, but was a total waste of space in his last 2 seasons, but Houllier deserves a huge slice of the blame too for playing him regardless of his form.

Hero IMO. Model professional. Decent player, great person. Helped us win a few cups.

^^^^ This

I remember that Utd miss with such bitterness. It was a such an easy chance as well. At the time I fucking despised him for it. His hat trick against Derby was pretty good but apart from that to me he gets a big fat ZERO!

I've heard many stories about what a nice charitable guy he is. As @Asbo said he did a lot that went unnoticed. I read somewhere he helped Leicester City avoid going into administration by donating a ton of cash.
