Hugo Boss

Good start to his LFC career. I'm seeing a quality player in the making.

Benzema being his idol makes sense. There are some elements of Benzema about him. He's a bit of a scruffy skilful forward who works incredibly hard, like Karim.

Like has been said, he does need to work on his heading. And his all round game needs refining (knowing when to hold it up and when to progress the play). But I think it's obvious that we've got a very talented forward on our hands who enjoys the physical nature of the PL.

I do have some concerns admittedly over whether he can develop if Isak came in, but I guess that would be on Arne to find the right balance of playing time for both.

I think he's a very very good payer. Good football brain.
If the Isac transfer fails and we just bring in a winger I won't be devastated. Ekitike is good enough and will continue to improve.

I don't see how we can get by without another striker. We'd be weaker than last year. We have lost three players who can play in that position. All got significant minutes, all produced numbers. It would be a disaster.

Versatility of the new player would be key, of course. You’d imagine the experts making the decisions understand that.

In an ideal world we'd have kept him but by all accounts he didn't want to stay (and we didn't want to pay him mega money) and it's hard to turn down 60M for a 28 year old entering the last 2 years of his contract given the goings on in recent years.

We absolutely should be signing a replacement though. I think we're short even if Isak signs.

The striker market has been completely stripped this summer, and we’re now in an Isak-or-nothing phase when it comes to a number nine. From what I’ve seen, Ekitike could, and maybe should, have been the main man. There’s also a strong case that we need another forward, even if Isak comes in.

Isak has scorched earth his relationship with the Geordies to the point I think they'll take £120M compared to £150M. My guess is Isak will sign, either now or in January. If he doesn’t arrive within this window, I expect we’ll bring in a cheaper, more versatile forward instead. Should Isak join before the deadline, the club will probably hold off on new additions, giving both Chiesa and Riu a chance to prove themselves while also testing Ekitike’s versatility.

Bar the odd missed chance, Ekitike hasn't put a foot wrong. He seems a good lad, too. My misgivings about his price tag look misplaced.

Yeah, let's assume we sign Isak - we're kinda weak on the wings. Slot spoke after the PSG game about width and 1v1 ability, but we've gotten worse there with Diaz's departure.

Salah, Gakpo, Chiesa - none of these excel at keeping width or creating advantages in 1v1 situations.

Diaz did that in spades, even if his final output was lacking. Rio is in that mould of player, but he's simply too young to offer anything meaningful this year. Was really hoping for something in that Barcola link.

We have Wirtz and we also have two attacking fullbacks. I'm not trying to downplay Diaz's game, but I don't think it's as bad as you make it out to be.

We had attacking fullbacks in Trent and Robbo as well (at their best) and also Salah and Mane who could (at their best) take on defenders.

Given the choice between an elite wide player and Isak, I'd take the wide player.

I knew nothing about Hugo before seeing him play for us.

Seems a really good dude, confident yet humble, and speaks like he's got a brain on him.

I wasn't expecting him to be this Ekitikitaka. It's a pleasant surprise.
