Hugo Boss

Just telling it like I saw it.
Sure, it's pre season and whatever, but he was still shite yesterday.
I don't see anyone disagreeing with me.

I disagree with you

He was decent. Good touch and decent control on an abysmal pitch. Linked well with Salah and wirtz. Worked tirelessly

For a debut, with little pre season, in high humid conditions; I was fine with it

He wasn’t shite. Link up play, pressing and touch were good. Already a decent understanding with the players around him.
For a first game after 1 session it was decent.
The pitch and conditions were shite.

That’s the problem for us with these pre season tours. Loads of money but not the best preparation wise.

Tbh I just see it as warm weather training. It's entirely conditioning, not tactics.

Shiny new car vibes.

Nah. There was enough there to see what he'll bring. I'm confident he'll be a success
I haven't written him off after 45 mins, but he was on the pitch with our best players.
Even two of our babies managed to score in the second half with Jones playing behind them.

One training session.

He is not going to be able to anticipate where the space is going to be yet to score. We will know a little more against Athletic, but really can't expect much at all until the Chharity Shield. Even then, any real judgement will be harsh.

I usally agree with you, Modo. This time, not so much.

I'll do better next time 😉

I missed that part of the game, but I heard loads of people saying he had some nice moments and should have been played in at one point.

I think @Modo does this so whenever a player has an off game he can chime in with "See, I was right all along" and then have an ongoing argument with someone about it.
Hahaha, you figured me out.
It's true, I do have a tendency to write players off quite early, but not in pre season. More often than not, I'm right.

But but Mo. didn't with our best players on the pitch! WTF?!

Hugo can control a football and is intelligent.
Two traits that, for those alone, making him better and nothing like Darwin.

He’ll be boss - no doubt.

It’s a little early to be making and kind of judgement about him really. How many minutes has he played for the club?
After little to no preseason on a slightly suboptimal surface.

I actually thought there were some nice touches and definitely looked like he fits Slot's requirement for technical players with high energy that can win the ball back.

I mean, can you look at that and say that he was decent?

Just to be clear, I really hope he turns out great, but I wasn't impressed yesterday.

I didn't watch the game so perhaps this compilation doesn't tell the whole story but what's the problem with the performance as shown by this video?

His touch from that corner was a 0/10 and he let his concentration slip after that really nice touch to collect the ball on the run... what are we criticizing him for beyond that?

Some nice touches, a few lay offs... standard stuff. A bit early for cries of David N'Ekitike, no?

The editing of that clip was a lot worse than the pitch. I agree he didn't blow us away on his debut; but I don't think he was awful as well.

The only concern I had from that game was that he seemed too easy to outmuscle when he was shielding the ball. Guys could just give him a nudge or bump and he'd turn the ball over. That has nothing to do with the shitty pitch nor unfamiliarity with teammates, it's all down to his own physical resistance or shielding technique. Hopefully he shows in the next preseason game that this was just an exception rather than the norm.

His touches and short passes in general seemed okay given the circumstances. Idea was there, execution not always, but not alarming for a first pre-season game and on that field. Too bad our corners and long throws (if we could call them that) were crap so we couldn't see how he could help us in those situations.

I think he was shite, but it's also OK for him to be shite because it's pre season. So I haven't really judged him.
