I think Hugo has some of Jota’s skill set. He drops deep, links up, and is quite running and dribbling at defenders. He is here, and I can plot his lack of fitness and injuries quite easily. I can also point to him being part of the unbalance in our team. None of that changes my confusing on why we signed another forward, for a record breaking fee, when we had someone else already through the door. We have replaced Nunez twice and not Jota.
That's fantasyland. Only if you are happy with average players to keep us in the Top 4. If we want to win the PL / CL we need better than 3-4 players for the ca. £116m we paid (no it was not £140m - unless you are the Daily Express/Mail, it really bugs me when people exaggerate to try to prove some point they are struggling to prove). Not buying Isak doesn’t mean we don’t buy anyone. That money could’ve got Guehi over the line and added a DM, LW and back-up forward.
Nah. He's gone end of the season. A waste of £450k a week. If you wanted to save money then there you are.Salah is here for another season and three quarters. Isak was proven in a side that plays completely different to us so was also somewhat a wild card.

I didn't want to say it, but yeah, that was exactly who I thought of too.Hugo's goal last night was pure Henry.
All talk of other players is banished. Please desist.

3-4 players? In this market that's what you'll get for £116m. It's naive to think otherwise. What did Ekitike cost? Not buying Isak doesn't mean we buy average players though. You're acting like the choice was Isak or Chris wood
Lots of hind sight in play here. Also very early days for Isak.
Yes my thoughts exactly. Forget Isak, get two more CBs and a DM.
I’m getting Caicedo vibes over Isak. Not saying he wouldn’t be a superb signing, but instead of signing Caicedo we signed Macca Szobo and Gravy.
I think we could do the same at CB and transform our team for the long term.
I have this feeling our central defence will drop off this season with Virg a year older and no true CBs to manage the load.
I don't want Isak, I want a CB to replace Ibu and a DM/CM who can play when we need to rotate.
I was going to say Szoboszlai, Mac Allister, Gravenberch and Endo or Caicedo. But Brizz has done it already. That's fantasyland. Only if you are happy with average players to keep us in the Top 4. What decade are you talking about? It's not last / this season. Why even mention Caiceido? He cost the same as Isak!I was going to say Szoboszlai, Mac Allister, Gravenberch and Endo or Caicedo. But Brizz has done it already.
Isn't what? A bad thing? Have you been on your 8% IPAs today already or what?Having one boss one and an unfit/injured one isn’t.

And Endo is exactly the type of average player that would see us Top 10 but Top 4 even.
Do you honestly think we'd get that lot in this market? Or that we'd be that lucky again? Dream on Brizz. This is hilarious because in the exact same situation we got Szobo Macca Gravy & Endo instead of Caicedo and they were all key to winning the league.
Remind me what they paid for him again? You think Chelsea signed Caicedo a decade ago?

Exactly. You seem to have misunderstood the debate. Momo quoted him along with three others for the price of Isak. Post #612More than we paid for our whole midfield
Isn’t great. Not yet, but may switch it up to a red later on.Isn't what? A bad thing? Have you been on your 8% IPAs today already or what?
You've just proven my point for me. That's an average bucket of tripe if ever I saw one!Well using fees of players who moved, that play in positions we need we could have signed 2 - 3 of these for the equivalent of Isak. This doesn't even include non PL transfers, or players who didn't move.
CBs
- Mosquera - 15m
- Hincapie (loan out)
- Diakite - 35m
- Huijsen - 60m
- Zabarnyi - 60m
- Akanji (loan out)
- Lindelof - free
DM/CM
- Norgaard 12m
- Jacob Ramsey - 40m
- Douglas Luiz (loan)
CF
- Wissa - 55m
- Pedro - 60m
- Delap - 35m

This doesn't include other targets we could have closed out like Guehi, Wharton and many many others. So for the same amount as Isak's 145m transfer (all numbers above are in EUR, Isak was 145 in EUR) you can se there are plenty of ways you could have had an approach to get 2 - 3 players that would bolster the squad.
Costing the same as Isak is the exact point. We were sensible about it and decided to use that money across other key areas, including having a “just does a job” player in Endo. I’m not advocating buying 4 fucking Endos. What decade are you talking about? It's not last / this season. Why even mention Caiceido? He cost the same as Isak!

Also :
Szobo £60m in 2023
Macca was £35m rising to £55m and that was because he had a special break clause. 2023.
Gravy was £35m in 2023. And had Klopp still been here I reckon Gravy wouldn't be (or wouldn't be the player he is today because Klopp didn't see his potential).
So you reckon we could get 4 players like that 2 years later in today's market? And that they'd all be that good? I'll have some of whatever you're smoking!
