I have finally paid off my student loan but was aware I had overpaid. I sent them my payslips and what not and thery arranged a refund. I called to see where it was and they said it was on its way, £1300. By my calculations they only owed me about £300 maybe £400. Not wanting to get it, spend it, then be told it was a mistake and I had to pay them back I told them this and they recalculated and came to my figure. Seems on my payslip they'd misread "year to date" for each month as the amount I'd actually paid each month.
With hindsight I should have just took it, put it in a savings account for a bit and then if they did want it back I'd have earned myself some interest.
But the question is, would they have noticed?
