I'm confused. I thought this whole thread was hypothetical! It seems that some are arguing the genuine merits of said hypothetical scenario.

Just to be clear - Lucas isn't worth £15m, and we'd never get that for him. I'm not sure anyone is suggesting that we attempt to sell Lucas, simply that if some club came in offering silly money for him then we should probably consider it. If someone were to offer us £15-20m him, we'd be mad not to sell, as it would enable us to improve the squad, with little or no outlay.

But as you say, it ain't going to happen. I thought this was just a bit of harmless fun?

My personal view is that under Kenny last year Lucas played really really well but there's people who simply can't get over there mental stumbling block of it is Lucas thus he's shite and forever will be. I remember coming out of matches where I was proclaiming his shittiness myself but I've watched the lad develop and turn into a good player. He's good but not great but people think that every single player we've had in League winning teams was a world class player and they simply weren't.

That's pretty much a given though.

All these hypothetical arguments are based on the idea that other clubs are going to spend the same way we are and if we're spending loads on unproven potential, then they should be happy to pay us loads more for our players who've been fairly good.

I think the whole problem is that Lucas has gone from hopelessly shite to average , or just above average in a short period of time.
That rapid positive movement has distorted how people see him and see him as better than he actually is.
He is much better than he was, but as said is an average little player.

The point though is that he has had more poor to average performances then most but he sticks to his task and tries to improve all the time. Everyone loves a hard worker take Kuyt for instance, he is a hero because of his commitment and I feel that given the chance Lucas could be the same because of all the effort and hard work that he puts in.
