So, let me start by saying that Sweden currently has the worst national team ever. Zlatan has retired and so has other minor role players like Källström and Isaksson.

Our top players are Guidetti (barely starts for Celta) and Emil Forsberg. Has anyone heard of them?
Didn't think so.

Also had a look at England's squad, especially the midfield selection:

Midfielders: Eric Dier (Tottenham), Jordan Henderson (Liverpool), Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (Arsenal), Michail Antonio (West Ham), Jesse Lingard (Manchester United), Raheem Sterling (Manchester City), Theo Walcott (Arsenal), Dele Alli (Tottenham)

Some talented players of course but does that midfield scare anyone?
Is that the worst bunch England has ever had?
 
Needless to say I am a bit thrilled by the current Danish team (we'll win the Euros in 2020) but it will be put to a stern test away to Poland whom I actually thought was a bit unlucky not go to the Semi's at the Euros in France.

Lewandowski, Milik, Zilinski, Krychowiak, Blazcykowzski (spell that yourself) and a ton of Bundesliga players to boot. Tough bunch.

Denmark will line up something like this:

Schmeichel, Durmisi, Kjaer, Andreas Christensen, Vestergaard, Ankersen, Delaney, Højbjerg, Eriksen, Fischer, Nicolai Jørgensen with Pione Sisto and Yussuf Poulsen the impact subs.

Haha. Probably not. Hardly inside Norway. We are a bit like Ingurland in that respect....

However Trond Sollied won the league in Belgium a few times. Greece also if not mistaken. Solbakken win it every year in Denmark.... And Hareide won it in all Scandinavian countries (not very hard opposition)!!
 
To be fair, English managers do fuck all, so we could possibly do with a few more scandos.

I guess Howard Wilkinson is the ennglishman to win the top flight and thatd be pre premier league Era...
 
Can't stand International footy during the season. Fingers crossed that a) no one gets injured b) Karius is given a boost of confidence in training after that performance..

He won't get a boost of confidence in training. He needs to get a boost of "coming off your fucking line and catching crosses, and not looking like a deer on ketamine blinded by spotlights"

My thinking was there is about 10 days for whoever trains him to help rid him of his fears of high balls (if that is what it is) - if it is, then Zlatan will have fun pressurising him at set plays.

God, that reminds me of the stories about Moyesie on the training ground desperately practising crossers and headers for hours on end after he 'mistakenly' bought Per Koldrup and realised that he was a central defender who didn't know how to head a ball.

Wasn't there some sort of story about Koldrup and how Moyes bought a different player to the one the scout recommended?!

Indeed. Not sure of the veracity of that story - them actually scouting and then buying the wrong player - but the stories about Koldrup being taught to head out clearances by an increasingly frantic Moyes and co are apparently true. He didn't start for months, and was then quickly sold.

Hahahahhaha.

It's Kroldrup. And with an 'ø' actually. Krøldrup. Try to pronounce THAT why don't you!

And yeah he was a massive flop at Everton. One of those defenders who looked decent in Italy but had very little to offer in England.
 
Leon Osman spilled the beans, although the Skem snake isn't exactly shy about exaggeration with regards to former team-mates.

Anyway:

"Davie Moyes made some tremendous signings during his time as Everton manager but he had mixed results with the players recruited in the summer of 2005. The gaffer paid £5m for the Dane Per Kroldrup , which was a lot of money for a defender back then. He came in and passed it well but…On his very first day of training, the gaffer took him to one side and started doing heading practice with him, like you would with a seven-year-old. It was a case of holding the ball, saying: “Are you ready? One, two, three – jump.”

‘Honestly, it was incredible. I don’t know what happened, but he had obviously realised that heading wasn’t Per’s strong point. £5m for a centre-half who can’t head the ball..!

You can be as talented as you like but in the Premier League you’ve got to be able to head it. Per came from Udinese in Serie A where the defenders were comfortable on the ball, good at positioning but not overly physical.

Per didn’t seem to want to head it, which was incredible for a centre-half. He went on to spend six years with Fiorentina, so he’s obviously a good player but he wasn’t set up for the Premier League. Per started one game, away to Villa on Boxing Day, and we lost 4-0. He was up against big John Carew, who just annihilated him."

Ha ha.. someone should've told Per that he probably would have to head the ball from time to time in England.

I rarely watched the Serie A at the time so can't say much about he fared in Italy, but he was 'decent' for Denmark, not great not bad, but now that I think about it, he probably did lose more physical battles in the air that he won. He was a good passer though and fairly quick but obviously not good enough for the Premier League.

Thinking about it, we have almost only had either very GOOD experiences or very BAD experiences with Nordic defensive players ourselves.

I mean Sami was the king obviously and Hysen, Riise and Agger was great too, but then we've had Piechnik, Steensgaard (keeper), Hansen (keeper), Kvarme (OMG), Bjornebye (how's the general consensus on him btw), Leonhardsen, Kippe, Poulsen et all. And then there was Heggem, I really liked him but he was always injured - a Scando version of Aurelio.

Meanwhile...
Everton loanee Enner Valencia was involved in a bizarre police chase during an Ecuador international on Thursday.

The striker, who is on loan from West Ham, was taken to a waiting ambulance on a mobile buggy, supposedly, faking injury in order to avoid the long arm of the law who wanted to speak to him over unpaid alimony to his ex-wife.

Ecuador won the game against Chile 3-0, but the action was off the pitch after Valencia had been replaced late on.

The police were at the team coach before the start of the match but failed to capture the elusive Valencia, who owes around £13,350 in child maintenance.
