Isakly what we need (AKA Isak Hunt)

all the best alex, enjoy the baguettes

smells like an attempt to validate the price they’re asking for though. hasn’t he said liverpool only? i don’t care anymore, just go somewhere or play for newcastle so we can get on with it.

Newest from Joyce which is available here:

A couple of key takeaways are that

1: Liverpool still appear to be negotiating with Newcastle. Holding their line on the money. Liverpool thinks that breaking the English record is more than enough to obtain Isak. Which is fair. I don't think that Isak has ever been a top PL striker, for example.

2: Isak transfer appears linked to other potential transfers by both Liverpool and Newcastle. Newcastle are seeking replacements while Liverpool are seeking to offload players. That's in part what makes it so complicated. All such pieces must fall in place. Both Newcastle and Liverpool are also probably working from within their own particular budgets and are seeking to have everything fall in line which is what makes it tricky.

Joyce mentions Elliot and that could very well be a false lead. What Liverpool does is send out both true and false leads to achieve various purposes. A successful transfer strategy must always include that. A mixture of false and true leads. False leads are critical to confuse other clubs of one's intentions. I think that the FSG are the very best at that in the Premier League. They have at least been so over the last few years.

Slot also included Wirtz and Frimpong so as to be able to say that he has 6 goal scorers/forwards competing for 3 positions. He cannot be happy with that. Wirtz is a number 10. He's a goal scorer like Szoboszlai is a goal scorer. To think of him as a forward alongside Diaz and Jota is very dubious. And while Frimpong can step in for Salah here and there it is similarly strange to conceive of him as a forward that can go on and contribute major goal scoring in the PL.

Weird what has happened with Elliot, I assume his PL transfer has fallen through since he seemed to be sending his farewell in the home preseason friendlies I thought.

The leipzig link isn't going, but they've not sold Simons yet. When that goes through, elliott will probably go through, and then our net spend looks even rosier. Squad depth less so

Good bot..

That helps no-one. We need backup before then, especially with AFCON.

I was elated a month ago. Now, not so much
I don’t want Isak, and I’m made up this seems to be falling through. There are no boss strikers about and spunking £120 million on Isak is absolute insanity. I’d rather have Slots hand forced to play Danns to help manage Ekitike’s minutes.

We both know slots hand won't be forced to players he doesn't rate.

In spite of what Slot is saying, we absolutely do need another 9, and we absolutely do need another wide player. I don't care if everyone thinks chiesa is ready for minutes this season, his fitness cannot be trusted. We have no viable 9 alternative, and if we start playing wirtz there consistently then we're absolutely dropping more and more points. We are also pretty damn sure he won't give rio minutes outside of cups.

Our depth up top has gone from being our strongest asset to our weakest

We both know our depth up top wasn’t our strongest asset. We had a useless fish holding prick, a perma crock and Diaz who could only do a job as the 9. Two of those wanted out and there were rumours Jota was also heading for the door. I do want another 9 and wrongly went for someone who isn’t available. There is also nothing else out there.

We won’t be playing Wirtz there on a consistent basis. Ekitike will be the consistent number 9.

We at the very least had 5 internationals playing there in their appropriate positions. Now we've got a 16 year old, an injury prone italian, a right back (frimpong) and an u21 striker that slot doesn't trust as our backup options. Thats a huge downgrade

Nunez was shite but scored occasionally and had muscle. Diaz was tricky but at least providing a different option to gakpo. Jota is absolutely the biggest loss, even though his form last season didn't show it (probably due to his lung injury). Our depth is atrocious up top now, having gone from a vareity of options

Wirtz is an excellent player with fantastic ball carrying abilities and an eye for a pass. In no world should he be playing as a 9; false or otherwise. Whether it be for 10 games, 1 game, or 1 minute, it's an absolute waste of his abilities and we have seen it the last 2 matches.

If we don't get any other forward this window, then it absolutely scandalous to let players leave; whether they wanted to or not. At the moment (and this is obviously subjct to change), we've focused on being Net Spend FC again
