Jamie running to the fans was awesome
Gerrard not being able to talk

Don't think it was those movies, but Gerrard saying "how can I leave after this"
[/quote]

No, it wasn't in the movie, it was one of the post-match interviews on the pitch. A few more snippets brought back to mind by Binny's excellent post there:

Thinking Tyldesley was just trying to stop viewers changing channel when he said "Hallo, hallo, here we go" after Stevie's header;

Baros's lovely little dink through to Stevie which forced Gattuso to foul him (and Gattuso DID foul Stevie - he clipped his back leg, never mind the cr@p about that having been a so-called dive);

Lord Frodsham standing at the side of the pitch waiting to come on, with the light of battle in his eyes, then running at Milan's left flank and finally slotting his peno like a cobra striking;

The moment I thought "we really are going to win this" when the Kaiser stepped forward to take the first peno; and, last but by no means least,

Me going upstairs at half-time to watch the second half on Old Faithful, which is what really turned the game. 8)

Probably the best day anyone will experience as an LFC fan. Ever.

On the down side: it's trying to get that high back.

On the plus side: 99.9%-100% of Footy fans anywhere will never experience anything like that so enjoy it.

So very true.

That season was my first as a Liverpool supporter and what a crazy season. I still remember the 1-1 draw with Spurs to start the season as I tentatively allowed myself to be drawn into this club + leaving work early to catch the game against Charlton with Garcia's cracker of a goal. And then the stunning European run, starting with the last gasp strikes against Olympiakos. I never envisioned having such a tremendous experience as a supporter, mitigated by the uneven league season. My first season following a football club and I had no idea that this was a season unlike any other.

I was emotionally crushed, like everyone else, at half time of Istanbul. I could barely bring myself to drink my beer. I hoped we would keep it respectable in the second half. As soon as Stevie scored that first goal, I got excited, even though it was still a massive two-goal deficit. You could feel, even over the television, that something had changed. I will never, ever forget that game. And I still can't believe that it's a true story and not scripted in Hollywood. You couldn't make up such a script.

It's been quite a while since I watched the game. I think it's time again.

I don't see how you can tell that he 'clipped his back leg.' Did he touch his shoulder? Yup. Did Stevie go down really easily? Yup. Do I care? Nope. If it was a Manc doing what Stevie did, would you call it a 'dodgy pen'? Yup.

I got back from Liverpool, very drunk, at about 3am and the game was being shown in full again on SKY, I poured my self some whisky and watched the whole thing all over again just to confirm we had won it.

The next day (I had had the foresight to take the Thursday off work) I went to my local newsagent and bought one of every daily newspaper (which I still have*) and sat in Cafe Rouge having breakfast and reading the articles, again just to confirm that I had actually witnessed THAT.

* I still have a copies of The Daily Mirror and The Express that my Dad bought for me the day after our 1977 victory.

EVERY daily newspaper? I hope there was one omission.

Funny you should ask, I actually have no idea whether or not I bought a copy of that paper that day but truth be told I probably did................I just remember going into the newsagent and grabbing a copy of the top of each pile. I haven't really looked through them since that day but I'd guess there's a copy there.

Sheer nonsense, old friend. It's clear as daylight from the replays. Gattuso "touched" a sight more than Stevie's shoulder. Stevie certainly threw his arms up as he fell, to make damn sure the ref didn't miss it, but the plain and simple fact is that Gattuso tried to fake an accident and failed.

If that was Nani on Saturday night doing that for the Mancs to win against Barcelona, would you call it a 'definite' penalty?

No, but I'd know it was.

Legitimate.

For the record, I think it was a 50/50 penalty but Gerrard 'embellished' it to ensure it was a certain peno. As I said though, I could care less. We won, fuck 'em. 🙂
