Well they hired him at the end of the day and things like bringing through prospects, player development, man-management and so on, should have all have been a massive prerequisite. We were never going to clone Klopp, but there were certain elements that needed to stay intact.Morton was always a player that was going to be sold. We weren't going to give him 20 games a season that he needs at this stage of his career to develop. McConnell will suffer the same fate (though Morton looks better).
It does look like a disconnect between the reserves and the first team has developed. Rio at the very least should have more minutes this season.
There will inevitably be some fallout because certain players can't afford to fuck around and wait, particularly given that clubs are forever propositioning and poaching young talent (including us). We were seen as a safe place because youngsters and their teams saw a clear route to the first team under Klopp - that is no longer the case.
That being said, it does look like there is some finger pointing going on behind the scenes. Slot has been a huge disappointment but the work by Hughes (and potentially Edwards) leaves a lot to be desired. No-one is coming out of this whole saga with their reputation intact.
Ha.. That wasn't aimed at you Hansern, but at earlier posts xApologetic for saying Slot rates a youngster. No wonder the World is on fire.
Its about working relationships though, we know there were issues with Klopp and Edwards, so regardless of certain successes, there were reasons for friction too. We won't really know, but there's clearly been some power struggles in there and maybe that's what Slot is also experiencing now.I doubt it. Edwards was a big factor in our early success and Hughes has a track record of finding and signing talent.
Not that I'm against cameos but there were quite a few that were less than 5 mins 😅
Rio - 10 appearances incl. 4 that were less than 15 mins (1, 3, 6, 6 mins)
Trey - 10 appearances inc. 3 that were less than 15 mins (1, 1, 11 mins)

Tbf they're not in a much better shape letting their board make the signings eitherCould be, but Edwards is basically Hogan now and is on top of this whole thing. While we dont know for certain Edwards left because Klopp wanted more control over transfers if rumors are to be believed. Signing Darwin was a step away from the data model that had served us so well in the past, and he left.
Slot is hired as a head coach and has accepted that the sporting director and the people above him make the transfer and team moves in general, with his blessing. Its how it should be in all honesty.
Just look at Utd and the mess they are in for letting their managers be in charge of transfers.
I'm loathed to defend Slot, but I can understand that even if a manager has accepted to work under those conditions, it can be frustrating if he feels he's working with one hand behind his back, if certain things aren't being met. ie, we'll never know if he had felt a defender or a DM was a priority last Summer, and we prioritised other positions instead. As much as I agree about the level of transfer control, it helps if the SD is on the same page (or near enough) as what the manager sees for his team.Could be, but Edwards is basically Hogan now and is on top of this whole thing. In other leagues the DoF is interviewed and answering questions on a regular basis. Should be the same in the Premier league.
Yes, and also, interview managers less.

I am all for bringing in youngsters but whenever Morton's played he has shown little to challenge for a spot, even when under Klopp.Morton's an odd one, because he's a passer who plays deep and we tried to sign Zubamendi and now have been linked with people like Wharton who do the same job. I'm not saying Morton is as good, or will be as good, but he's a type of player we don't have in the squad so why wouldn't he get an opportunity as a result?
Guardian had a piece yesterday suggesting exactly this.
Get himLuis Enrique rejects PSG’s latest contract offer in terms of an extension. Might be available this summer
That would be a bit of a turn about. Wasn't Enrique a Barca legend originally from doing a reverse Figo/He'll go to Madrid, we'll get Alonso
Was he not a Barca lad? He'll go to Madrid, we'll get Alonso
Both. He was at Madrid first (as a player). Was he not a Barca lad?
