Joe Cole - Thoughts?

Let's be honest, if he's on 80k a week it's still a nightmare deal. At least we didn't pay for the little cockney sparrow.

This is the post from before we signed him i was referring to:

The idea of Joe Cole is way better'n the actual Joe Cole.
In theory he's a diminutive footballing genius who can control the tempo of a game and create a chance out of nothing (this theory is normally the one espoused when he is injured or not playing in the team)
But in practice he's a massive headed slightly downsy looking barrell chested cockerney cheeky chappie who more often than not does nothing of any note on the football pitch and rarely scores or creates anything but occassionally beats a man with a trick before wiping his massive head with his sweatband and being substituted on 60 mins.

I asked to be in DA about three weeks ago! Where's my name!

Former England manager Glenn Hoddle believes current boss Roy Hodgson could have benefitted from Joe Cole's international experience at the European Championships.

Cole, 30, made his last appearance for England as a substitute in the 4-1 quarter-final loss to Germany at the 2010 World Cup but was overlooked by the new England manager despite injuries to Frank Lampard and Gareth Barry.

Nevertheless, Hoddle insists the Liverpool midfielder remains one of England's greatest talents and his international experience could have proved beneficial to Hodgson's young squad.

"Joe has done very well for England sometimes when he was playing in the World Cups; he would play better for England than he would for his club," Hoddle told Yahoo! Sport. "And I would have taken that into consideration without a shadow of a doubt, I don't know if Roy did."

Cole's career appeared to have swerved off course since he made a free transfer to Liverpool in the summer of 2010. The midfielder made 56 appearances for England since making his international debut in 2001 but laboured on the fringes of Fabio Capello's squad at the World Cup in South Africa and struggled to hold down a place in the first-XI at Anfield.

But the former Chelsea and West Ham midfielder has been rejuvenated by a season-long loan across the Channel with Lille, scoring four goals in 31 appearances as the Ligue 1 side finished third. And Hoddle, who spent four successful years with Monaco in the late '80s, believes Cole will have benefitted from the experience of playing abroad.

"Again the squad looks pretty young and inexperienced and Joe has that experience under his belt and knows the foreign game," added Hoddle. "He's got good experience at international level, he played in Champions League level and he's played abroad.

"I went and played in France and it widens your horizons and you learn so much more playing in a different system and a different culture. So I think he would have been pretty close to getting in the squad."

Cole is expected to return to Liverpool next season, according to sources at Lille, who appear to have abandoned attempts to sign him on a permanent basis.

"Joe Cole will stay at Liverpool," Lille coach Rudi Garcia said earlier this month. "The new staff has decided to keep him. We will keep very good memories of the player but also of the man."

The London mob sticking together again I see.

Do one Glenn, Cole hasn't done enough to warrant a callup, so fuck up.

Why is it whenever Glen Hoddle says something now you just can't take it seriously, well I know why it is , but I just can't , he is one level down from David Icke

I agree.

Also the Cole, Cole link up at the last tournament was one of the few highlights we had. As for his Liverpool career, I think he should be sold as soon as we can.

I don't really get this. I mean, I wouldn't have been against him going to the Euro's either, but that's more due to such a lack of creative talent in the squad. But to say we think he should have gone, but by the same token his Liverpool career should be over.... I don't get it.

He had a good (overblown) season last year in France (4 goals and 2 assists in the league), but he hadn't had a good season in England since 2007/2008, 5 years ago.

So it's ok for him to walk into the England squad based on how he did at the 2006 World Cup(!)? Yet he's finished with us because he hasn't been good in England for so long??.

People seem to be a bit blinded by the fact he did well against foreign players in a foreign league last season, therefore meaning he would do well against foreign players in an International tournament again. Completely different kettle of fish.

It's quite logical, Mark.

England don't have to pay him £90,000 a week for his services, whereas we do. For that sort of revenue, we can bring in someone with more promise and who enjoys being at the club.

HE may look like a pie and chips type of guy, but footballer Joe Cole has showed himself to be a bit more adventurous while enjoying a meal with his wife in Marbella.

While his former England colleagues put in the hard yards at the European Championships, Cole tucked into Thai green curry during lunch at La Sala.

The Liverpool star – who has spent the season on loan at French club Lille – is currently enjoying a holiday with wife Carly Zucker.

The couple had deep fried calamari with garlic mayonnaise to start, and while Cole washed his curry down with a coke, fitness instructor Zucker sipped water and ate healthy teriyaki salmon with yaki tori noodles.
