If he manages to convince Henk Ten Cate to follow him, it would really be a good move..
I'm not at all convinced about that. Ten Cate is a hard b@stard who's guaranteed to divide almost any squad or dressing-room. Appointing him would be throwing paraffin on an already burning fire.
Well, he was one of the key reasons for the success at Barca.

But he then got himself fired from Chelsea, one of the Athens clubs and a club in Dubai (I think it was) after successive dressing-room revolts. He'd be another Souness.

BTW if hiring Ten Cate is the price of signing Rijkaard, I definitely don't want Rijkaard either.

Hmm, maybe you're right. I think he has Johan Neeskens as his assistant at Gala.
Reports coming from Turkey this evening is that he has been fired tonight..

Hopefully we are looking at other options aswell. Pellegrini for one.

doesn't bother me in the least he got fired. josé has been fired, rafa has been fired, capello has been fired, del bosque has been fired.

I've never been a fan, but fuck it, let's roll the dice, can things really get worse?
I don't know. That's what most said before Rafa got sacked and look at us now.

Thats what Hicks thought too.

I think I'd rather have Klinsmann, but have no idea why.
it's that sexy californian/german accent isn't it SG?

Klinsmann did a really good job with Germany, but fucked up royally with Bayern. Would stay well clear.

I think we have to recognise that torres will in all likelihood leave, so pepe and gerrard aside we wont have any 'big' players to appease. we have to recognise that this is a long term project and we'll have to tread water for a few years and pick the manager accordingly. we should go for a manager that has experience of building from the ground up and bringing through youth.

is rijkaard that manager? he certainly did that for barca, which wasn't the 'gimme' some people make it out to be but the task at liverpool is far greater and the competition is far greater.

I want Loew to be our next manager, if not then a power play for Van Gaal in the summer.

Having said all that we need to get rid of Roy, is Kenny in as temporary manager an option until someone 'decent' comes available?

this weekend is win/win

roy wins - we move up the table
roy draws - he is fucked off
roy loses - he is fucked off

win/win

At Barca he was supported by a good assistant, a sporting director and president who delivered him the best player in the world very early on and lest we forget, one of the best youth academies in the world (if not the best at the time). Still, what he built at Barcelona deserves to go in the history books and Guardiola owes some of his success to the foundations Rijkaard built.

I've just never been convinced he'd be right for us. It'd be a great gamble if it paid off, but it's not one that I'd make.

any young hungry manager is gamble, a vastly experienced manager is a gamble unless you have vast sums of money to fling at a problem.

No manager is a risk free appointment. Every one is a gamble. Some just have better odds than others

I think it's also fair to say there are some managers you are prepared to be patient with and others you just aren't.

oh definitely, however thats more personal opinion than fact. For example:

"Thanks for the Champions league now fuck off" versus "we shouldn't have got rid"

.....

the second one might not be a quote per se....but someone prob did say it

We all know that any appointment or transfer carries an element of risk and it also stands to reason that some deserve more patience than others.

These are just common footballing truisms. What are you trying to say?

He's asking you if Hicks can appeal.
roy is actually hicks' mole sent to destroy us from the inside.

i'm not trying to say anything, i was merely expanding on the point made earlier by yourself over rijkaard being a gamble. Everything is a gamble, not just in football either. Obviously some deserve patience however patience has to be earned by performance. We've played shit now so there's no patience. With rafa we did ok so patience was rightfully earned.
