Konate

… and still managed to make the Opta Stats team of the year

I don’t think his attitude changed at all.

Gravy and Mo finished the season more poorly that they started it, but I wouldn’t accuse them of “downing tools”

End of the day, he played his part in us winning the league - that sort of thing doesn’t tend to happen when key players down tools.
Remember the Man U game at Anfield?

Yep, Opta Stats team of the year is where it's at.

You can pretend it doesn’t weaken your argument that he “downed tools” if you like.

Objectively, his output didn’t suggest any sort of drop off.

I get it though, subjectively, the fact decided to leave meant that people amplified every failing and created a false narrative that his performances were a disgrace.

Anyway, the point is, there is absolutely no evidence to suggest that Konate’s performance levels would drop off in a season where his ultimate plan is to leave at the end of it versus, say, his performance levels increasing to make sure he maximises his new deal.

Will we sell if he doesn’t sign a new contract and we get Guehi and Leoni? Or are FSG happy enough to keep him for this season?

I reckon Konate will run down his contract and walk for free next summer, like Trent did, unfortunately.
Unlike Trent who led us on where he wouldn't comment on whether he wanted to stay... Konate is giving indication he wants to stay, and if he does go we have two very able defenders behind him. If we get Isak plus the two defenders, we have strong cover for every position.

So in other words the club and Konate are in agreement. Because we won't sell him at a knock down price and risk jeopardising our PL and CL chances.
Sure, they’re in agreement. I just hope I’m wrong about this and that he will sign an extension.

The thing is, if we sign Guehi and Konate doesn't renew, I'd be tempted to prioritise Guehi as a starter. Long-term investment and all that. And if that happens, Konate will get pissed off and defo walk next summer. In other words, I think he's off next year.

That's my feeling, too. We're seeing a classic Real Madrid playbook here. The PR stuff is just to stay on the right side of the fans; after all, he saw what happened to Trent.

Think the feeling is 50/50 if Konate signs or not. But I think he needs to take a quick look at what will happen to Trent in the coming months - my dentist who is a QPR fan was talking us up today and said "Don't think you will be affected by Trent leaving, I hear RM would love to just send him back". If Konate goes to Madrid it will only be to babysit Trent when he goes up the pitch - he will know that and needs to think hard - is it really worth it ? - think he will lose a few years of his career doing that.

That still means he's a dick.

i have a crime to confess to, i do occasionally watch koptalk duncan on youtube.

he has a source that says the club are annoyed with konate/his agent because they believe he has already spoken to madrid and is asking for a similar salary to what they would offer, which is too much. also there’s a 15th august deadline for him to renew and our price is £45m if he doesn’t.

probably a load of shite but i do not fancy another change in the back 4

Yep. Load of bollocks. As if we'd go that route after the season has started.

i’m inclined to agree, be interesting to see if anything comes out about him tomorrow though. it would be very surprising with it being a match day.

Would they offer that same salary if he was not free ? Also that report linking him to Chelsea which is probably all bullshit - I have a suspicion because Chelsea are not linked to anyone at this stage despite their defender being injured right ? - that is a bit strange.
