Konate

If we're getting crazy fees for some of the unwanted/wantaway players then I'd prefer to keep Ibou and go again for the title next season with the view of him leaving on a free as opposed to binning him off now, signing some dud that turns out no better than Quansah.

Who knows, they may be a point during the season say around Christmas time, where we come to our senses....Ibou is playing out of his skin and forces our hand.

Real Madrid in the background. He will choose them over us every time. £200k isnt a huge amount, I doubt the impasse lies there, its something else. Agent fee? Those leeches always want a generous part of the pie

The inference is clearly that the deal is almost done.

I’d hope that our summer transfer dealing shows that we’re serious about building on this seasons success and he’d want to be a part of it.

Well, given the source maybe not.

I tend to think of footballers as simple creatures who just want to be appreciated, well paid and the opportunity to win things and if you can satisfy those needs, then they’ll smile and sign contracts.

What Konate has said about the clubs and his contract, on the surface, seems positive.

Any update on his contract renewal? Signing Konate upto a new contract is more important that our 4th signing (i believe we have 3 wrapped up already)

If there's any truth, I think he's out ... Pity as he had a chance to be the replacement for VvD.
Hato is it I guess ?

Not THE Graeme Bailey? The Graeme Bailey Strategic & Operational Head of Football with @grvmedia?
Well that changes everything.

Forget Mr bailey, if Konate has not signed a renewal and none of the prominent Journos are saying its close, then a fair assumption is there is still big enough difference between what Konate wants and what the club has offered. Granted its still early but we don't want to be in the same situation as Trent

Why wouldn't we give ibou big money? He's an exceptional CB and still (in CB terms) very young
I tell ya why, he is great when VVD is next to him, but as shown for France and when Gomez/VVD are Not next to him he is a liability with zero leadership qualities. He is worth more than what we are paying him but not worth as much as he/his agent think he is worth.

The problem is Konate is an asset with a substantial dollar value attached.

Certainly - I'm not saying the process will be simple and a deal definitely won't come cheap. Those precedents suggest, though, that the club is capable of striking an effective balance between the various interests involved.

Zero leadership qualities as in "captained France U-21s and wore the armband for the senior side when they played Italy in the Nations League".

You’ve just been “Moroned”!!!
Deschamps has dropped him a few times though. I actually agree with Moron, a good few times he's been all over the place. In the same instances if it'd been Gomez he'd be castigated on here.
I'd like to keep him but if he's playing this game he can go.

Whats Konate worth per week to you? I heard it was £200k a week, which is reasonable. At what point does it become too much?

He's had his dodgy moments - who doesn't at some point in the season? - but "zero leadership qualities" is industrial strength bo11ocks.

But get who, that would have the same Chemistry as Konate and VVD (have)? If he doesn't sign I would rather sell, also we have built up reputation of allowing players to run down their contracts so the big clubs will be waiting till next summer

If ibou goes, ibou goes. Tbh there's only so much you can do with players with 2 years left on their contract. They refuse, then you panic and start trying to get the contract done quicker. They refuse and then they leave for free.

What we gonna do, offer an extension when there's 3 years left? 4 years? Offer 9 year contracts?

We're in the world where free transfers are done 2 years + in advance for the top talent. Big players moving for free is going to be come the norm.
