Leftism

You are aware that its likely after this summer we wont see any new purchases for at least 3 windows unless we sell?
I see this window as a bit of a rebuild - as much as we want to avoid unnecessary disruption to a title-winning team, it’s kind of unavoidable at this point. Next summer the squad will probably be much more settled and we will just need 1-2 high-quality additions such as Rogers to make a leap forward.

Does anyone think that in another year Trent going to Madrid and Diaz going to Barca would be seen as a disaster for us and more of a kick in the teeth considering we're the Champions of England?

Yet I just get this underlying feeling that it's a bit of a blessing for Slot because neither really fitted into his vision for the team. I could be wrong, they are both great players but both are flawed as we well know.

Dunno about systems etc but Diaz started of the season very well unlike Trent who was subbed often and threw a strop early on.

Slot definitely got Diaz playing well but as mentioned in we replace him with better I'd be ok to see him go.

All comes down to the replacements. There's the usual risk of stick or twist, but if a player doesn't want to be here then it's best to be proactive and see it an opportunity to refresh the squad and for Slot to stamp his mark on things. But they are both CL and PL winners and the club did and would have offered both new and improved contracts, so blessing may be a stretch. There's nothing some savvy recruitment cannot replace and maintain, and hopefully improve, but there's always an element of risk of things. I think the thread the other day highlighting the transfer windows over the years broadly suggested we had a 75 percent hit rate on signings in the last 7 seasons or so, which whilst still significantly better for most clubs indicates one in every four will flop or be meh. If that's so happens to be in Trents or Diaz replacements then there's every chance we downgrade. No matter what I'm sure there will be games we will miss Diazs workrate and tenacity and Trents outrageous passing. In Diaz case we have Gakpo, which does mitigate things. He can be a regular first teamer and his scoring rate is on the up. Bradley still has some question marks around him if Frimpong comes in and flops.

I would caveat all that with signings we have identified so far look bang on and I'd trust the Edwards and Hughes to dig out a Diaz replacement. We're not talking prime Mane here, but I'd want £70m from Barca and no bullshit.

🚨] NEW: A bid for Luis Diaz from Al-Nassr could be imminent after they have received central funding approval to enter negotiations as they aim to upgrade their attacking options by raiding the Premier League ahead of next season.

I just don't want to do the thing we always do:

Yeah, this makes us stronger in one placed and makes another weaker, but that only matters if player x stays healthy... then they don't... but we will address that later.

If that article is from his representation and not barcas, we won't get anywhere near as much for him either.

I know he seems annoying but he does have far better numbers than Gordon. I'd be careful what we wished for here. I know he's off but expecting someone to come in better isn't likely.

I think we will end up with worse, the antidote being that perhaps we can get more out of kerkez and whoever in combination than Diaz and Robbo, who never developed any great understanding.

We're building a new attack. We won't get worse. Maybe as a player for player with Diaz (though I dont think thats likely), but as a team we'll be much better.

Gakpo is Slots preferred left winger and as he likes to cut back inside and shoot kerkez will be overlapping on the wing more often. Kerkez and Diaz won't work out

We could easily get worse. That's not any great analysis. One of our important players left. Our most important two players are getting worse. Now our second most important attacking talent is leaving.

There is plenty of room for improvement, including with the players in our squad shy of their prime, but get it just a little wrong, and we will be worse. It isn't easy.

I don't think we'll get worse when Slot gets the players he wants to build "his" team. We're also close to signing one of the most talented attacking players in the World.

Lets see. I'd be extremely surprised if we get worse next season as a team.

I wouldn't be surprised if next season is difficult. You don't normally make several changes and everything clicks instantly. It might, but it's more likely to not. I mean we'll win the league and all that cos everyone else is shite, but it might take another year to get really good.

Yeah it’s a lot of changes and I’m not sure we need to change this position as much as center forward. I was also hoping we would add some midfield improvements to go with the the defensive improvements

Yeah, tend to agree. There's also a lack of leadership in the middle of the park, which makes me nervous that things won't knit together as seamlessly and as quickly as they could. I'm confident the full backs will be okay because Konate and VVD are used to flying fullbacks, but Grav will have to adapt and his positioning will be more crucial than ever

I'm more curious for how Wirtz slots. I think that has the potential to be most disruptive/impactful, especially if it's in the middle of the park in either Szobos role or at 9. It's all up in the air at the minute and it's fair to say that pre-season will be more interesting than usual. One thing in our favour is that some rivals are competing in a the CWC and we might be able to steal a march on them early doors, or at least give us a window of opportunity to find our flow without dropping off the pack.

Worth noting that City and Chelsea will probably have a load of upheaval, too.

Feels like money(ball) reasons driving this, not football ones. Diaz not getting any younger, so cash in whilst we still can.

Disappointing but I'm sure Edwards and co can find a decent up and coming player to compete with Gakpo. Be nice to have someone who actually drives to the byline, not cut inside EVERY fucking time. (I guess that'll be Kerkez job but still.)

My biggest worry is the Saudis not having enough money left to take Darwin off our hands.

£80m and we can throw in Jota for £60m

Do people think Rio Ngumoha is ready for the first team squad yet? To me he seems dangerous but a bit naive, as you'd expect from someone his age. Doak looks way more ready and he's not really had a look in.

No. He needs a couple more seasons. That’s why I’m content with replacing Diaz with someone who will be here for 5-6 seasons and Rio replacing Gakpo in 27/28.

Yeah I don't think we'll be worse and could be better.

Robbo+ Tsimi = Kerkez + Robbo = Improvement +2

Trent + Bradley = Frimpong + Bradley = Improvement +1 (swings & roundabouts but overall a small gain).

Szobo + Elliott (95% Szobo) = Wirtz + Szobo = Improvement +3

Salah + Elliott = Salah + Frimpong = loss -1 (because of a Mo. drop off).

Diaz + Nunez + Jota = A + B = loss -2 (at the moment, without knowing who is in and who out)

Diaz + Gakpo = Gakpo + A.N.Other = loss -1

CBs no change no gain no loss. As it stands.

Ali + Kells = Ali + Marsh = Improvement +1 (improved Ali fitness and competition)
