from the boys insta.

I know it's about the shirt numbers, but I love this

I’m surprised how much allowance Diaz is given sometimes compared to others, all because he is on 70k maybe?
His stats assists wise aren’t great and never have been from what I remember, him and his dad have been bent over for Barca for over 3yrs, that video of him and Nunez swooning over Saudi money was a disaster and blatently had never or was going to ever going to extend.
Sell all day for me, happy to risk his 14 goals and 4 assists or whatever for someone who wants to build a future for us.
I do see it’s not same as Trent but for me, he can fuck off now. Bored by his 3yr courting of Barca, I can’t see them offering his full value though.

in Pl alone? Gakpo just about but it’s not just PL is it. Like Leao and decent age for us.

It’s a combination of things for me with Diaz. For me, his stats in LW are enough for me to twist and gamble. Was same last season. He genuinely doesn’t seem bothered to stay, so why keep trying.

Malik Tillman is 23,a US citizen born in Germany having a height of 1.87m has scored 12 goals playing mainly as a AM but can play LM and LW. What I like about him he has pace and can tackle. He needs to get more assists but that could be improved by formational changes. With his height, build and he is a unit who out muscles opposition players

Igor Paixão is a midget but that doesn't stop him scoring and assisting 16 goals and 14 assists. Looking at his goals there is no way this Oompa Loompa is able to out muscle players and out jump taller players. This isn't the first time he has been mentioned

Does anyone think that in another year Trent going to Madrid and Diaz going to Barca would be seen as a disaster for us and more of a kick in the teeth considering we're the Champions of England?

Yet I just get this underlying feeling that it's a bit of a blessing for Slot because neither really fitted into his vision for the team. I could be wrong, they are both great players but both are flawed as we well know.
I think time will tell that Trent made a huge error and Diaz didn’t.

We're building a new attack. We won't get worse. Maybe as a player for player with Diaz (though I dont think thats likely), but as a team we'll be much better.
There’s a big assumption there that a new attack automatically means better. While I trust Slot there is every chance the new attack doesn’t click for various reasons.

You can’t just say we won’t get worse. Last season was one of our best attacking seasons in years.

Its not given the development of the team and new additions.

We scored the same amount of goals in Klopps last season btw.

We didn’t even try for the last 4 games and played a much more pragmatic style where we didn’t continually chase goals.

Bar a couple of exceptions there is a strong case to say that most of our best players will decline next season from this seasons level.

Of course the new players could raise us even higher but to say it will happen so confidently is extremely naive.

We won a lot of games by 1 goal this season and everyone else was rubbish.

To think we will just kick on is nuts.

I'm prepared to be persuaded but I fail to see how selling Luis Diaz improves us.

I think he scored 17 goals last season.

Long term it’s the right move imho. He’s 29 this season and has 2 years left on his contract. It’s now or push the issue a few years into the future. Get a lower fee, new contract with a higher wage or capitalize now.
Given the Saudi interest it’s now.

He had a good season albeit with some dry spells, no goals from Jan - April.

I think we can definetly get better and build a more suited left side to what Slot wants. Gakpo - Kerkez would be my preferred starters. But it depends on who we sign obviously.

But financially and timing wise in terms of squad planning, it’s now.

To think we won’t improve at all is also extremely naive.

And just as a reminder, Diaz came in joint second in our SCM MOMO player of the season awards (6 pack of southern Tayto on the way to the man)

I know we are just a bunch of cranky fans, but it does mean something. He has been valuable for us

It’s his work rate and attitude - Liverpool fans can forgive a lot of shortcomings if those 2 elements are right and they ARE right with Diaz.

He had a major impact this season. Not Salah levels, but right up there just behind Gravy, VVD, Macca, as far as the fans have said on here as per Vox Populi

Attitude on pitch is fine on most part but in that video with Nunez it didn’t look right. There is more to it being LFC LW then just looking “busy”. The guy playing before was the perfect LW, it’d the right time to risk and see if we can improve. Point is, guy doesn’t wanna stay. So why bother? He isn’t a Mane and don’t remember him doing anything of note in that period between PSG so no point begging for a player who clearly wants to move on to his dream club. Good time to deal.

This all ties into what I was trying to say earlier, albeit with tge sort of clarity a bottle of red and a few beers brings.

The fear is always, too much change is disruptive, but the trick is, if you have Ali, Bradley, Robbo & Gakpo starting regardless of who comes in then we’re only really looking at where Wirtz plays and who the No 9 is - everyone else can integrate over the season

Which is why I think selling Harvey, Jota, Darwin and Diaz and replacing them with Wirtz is possible with minimal disruption.

That’s $240m income which would give us let’s say £120m to sign two players - I think it’s doable if we can sign at least one player that can cover Centre as well as LW, whilst the other would be mostly centre.

Coutinho mainly played left for Klopp I think. We hardly played any games with the "Fab 4" anyway.

Having said that, I think Wirtz will play as a 10 for us.

That’s very true - I thought they played longer but the Fab 4 really only had 14 or so games together -

It’s funny - I can’t remember much about how we played between when Suarez left and Salah - for very good reason, I suppose given the flashback names of the forwards we employed during that period!!!

BMS 1 (1 yr Before Mo Salah) I presume Coutinho played left, Bobby central and didn’t Mane start on the right for us?

BMS 2 Coutinho would have played on the left - that was… was it when Rodgers couldn’t figure out what to do with Bobby and stuck him on the right so he could have Benteke in the centre.

Prior to that, I can’t remember where Coutinho played left mostly - I think it was left, but we would have had Sterling, Sturridge, Rahem and Suarez all sort of floating about in those years.

I’m choosing to forget, Borini, Lickie Rambert, Aspas & Balotelli ever played for us.

Fuck me… in retrospect I’m surprised Coutinho’s back didn’t go years earlier.

Well he was completely lost at Inter where we saved him for 8m, and though he was one of our star players there wasn’t any demand for him from top teams until he started playing under Klopp. And even that was because of Barca panicking with the Neymar sale.
Liverpool was his best option for years until he decided it wasn’t.
