Liverpool bid £16mil for Alberto Moreno

So, Shaw 30 mill and Moreno 12 mill. Is Shaw worth 18 mill more and probably double Morenos wages?

£12m. Weeks ago it was £20m and everyone was saying to walk away, it dragged on and on and everyone said walk away. We've now secured him for (initially at least), £8m less than what was being demanded by his club.

Sometimes it's worth the wait and the haggling.

Well, if we win something or qualify for the CL a few more million will be worth it no?

Sure, but it could just as well be based on appearances. Doesn't matter though, I have no opinion whatsoever regarding this transfer. I'm just glad it isn't £25 mill.

Sounds as though we've done our home work;

@LFCZA: Julian Ward (#LFC's Iberian scout) went to almost all of #Moreno's matches and even studied his personal life.

@LFCZA: Ward kept #Rodgers abreast of #moreno's progress and urged Ian Ayre to sign the player after chatting to him in April this year> #LFC

@MrBoywunder: James Pearce - Alberto Moreno's determination to move to Anfield was crucial in convincing Sevilla to reluctantly do business.

Don't forget the cost in terms of lost assimilation into the squad and the back four. It's hidden but doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

Lol, congratulate Ian Ayre?, the man is paid an absolute fortune by the club and were supposed to congratulate this suit when he does a competent job? haha!

who the fuck knows whether the quoted numbers were ever a reality. I'll fucking bet anything they didn't turn 16 mill down to eventually settle for 12 -- which is what the press would lead you to believe.

The same Julian Ward who scouted Aspas and Alberto to the tune of 15M combined.

Yeah, knocking 6 mill of the asking price is piss poor innit.

The same Ayre who negotiated Sturridge and Coutinho combined for less than £20m. We've had some shit times in the transfer market with Ayre probably culpable, but he's pulled off alot of good stuff too, it's too easy for some pricks on here to put the boot in. I see Skully is now lording it up about Moreno, after laying into the Manquillo deal for most of last week.

The big upside right now is that 12M seems to be a reasonable given who we're buying from and the current market.

I'm leaning on the side of this working out... I guess we'll find out for sure soon enough.

True. Jury is still out on Alberto, who has been very good for Malaga so far. Aspas was a horrendous signing.
Decent job on Canos mind.

no one seems to be able to explain why he's any good. every video of him looks shit.

El Zhar's video's looked boss, tbf. There was a decent post on here last week about Manquillo and Moreno being considered the future Spain fullbacks. I've not seen enough of either to make a judgement either way, I thought Manquillo looked decent though against Dortmund for a loanee kid who'd been with us three days. Far from the disaster that alot of posters were predicting last week anyway.

None of us know the ins and outs of this deal, if you really believe that Ian Ayre has beaten the price down and saved the club 6 million quid then that is naive at best.

Who's next for congratulations? the tea lady for getting the sugars right?

"No one knows the ins and outs of the deal".

"If you really believe Ian Ayre has driven the price down then it's naive at best".

Which is it?

Pearce just confirmed this is what we offered in May. Its been all over the media all summer that Sevilla wanted 20 mill €.

Tea lady? Good one.

we'll see with manquilt -- a friendly against a toothless dortmund is hardly much to go on. bell zhar didn't cost 12 mill.

Neither did Manquillo, but it didn't stop people seeing the word "loan" and assuming the worst, or watching a youtube video and considering it to be a deal that was dead in the water from the off. I agree, we'll see, but I'd rather look at some promise from near enough a full game for "us" against decent opposition, than a few youtube snippets and the structure of the deal.

We've paid £20m for Markovic who most people seem convinced will tear it up, because he's skillful and he cost a wedge. I think/hope he will, but people let snatches of information dictate their thinking, despite knowing next to nothing about the player, in many of these cases.

In typical transfer fashion, on the Sevilla forums, it's being reported to them as £18mill plus 2mill in add ons. Pounds not euros.
