Liverpool must wait to close the signing of Sevilla fullback Alberto Moreno.

Sevilla sports chief Monchi insists Moreno will face Real Madrid in the European Super Cup this weekend.

Liverpool have been in talks with Sevilla this week over a £16 million deal for Moreno.

"Alberto trained very well yesterday and like the rest of his teammates is preparing for the European final, it is true that there is a club that wants him and we have been in contact, but today he is going to play the Super Cup final for Sevilla," declared Monchi.

Kinda' tiring, this posturing from Sevilla. If this keeps up we should just move on and sign Rojo... for the same price!

Feels like this has gone on forever. Hopefully not one of those transfers that lasts all summer and doesn't materialise.

Rojo is supposedly much cheaper (£10m). If we wanted a defensively sound LB then he'd be a sound option.

Yeah I think we were just laughing at the apparently low numbers a few days back. I've read from somewhere (dodgy source) that Sporting own just 25% of Rojo, and are thus looking for a bigger value so they can actually make a proper profit. I'd admit to not having seen Rojo before the World Cup and not knowing how he played at club level. It was interesting that the Italian (?) Juve-supporting female journo was suggesting in her twitter that nobody would've even thought about wanting to bid 12m euros for Rojo before the World Cup.

They play him won't unable to pay in the Champions League ?

BR: We’ve still one or two things we want to do in the transfer window before the end of August. Moreno is not a done deal.

Alberto Moreno's future now lies away from Sevilla. #LFC have agreed a deal to sign him for €17m + add-ons.

The signing of Moreno will not be made official by #LFC until after the Super Cup on Tuesday.

Apparently it hasn't been done yet cos he feels an obligation to play for Sevilla one last time in the Super cup cos it's his hometown club

Moreno playing in the sort of side that showed up today is a mouthwatering prospect. Really just pace and attacking brilliance from about 6 different positions if we get him in the team. Teams will be torn apart no matter how they set up against us.

Most of you 'Meh's were also saying the same thing about Manquillo .. the Dortmund thread makes interesting reading 😉

Neither was I. The Dortmund connection is relevant in more ways than one BTW, because a few years ago their fans were dead chuffed when we took Degen off their hands, and some Seville fans have apparently been expressing similar sentiments over the prospect of unloading Moreno.

If he turns out to be a good signing after all, I'll be only too glad to admit it on here.

We're fucked then. I've never ever seen you admit to being wrong, ever.

As in, ever.

Would be v interesting to see whether we would start Moreno LB and Manquillo RB... and then when Flanny Alves returns, would he be a starter? Ideal problems to have, the prospect of having good players who can offer something rather than who is least worst!

An interesting observation from someone whom I recall posting his lofty congratulations when I said I'd been wrong about Sturridge before he signed. To name just one example.

Still no deal! Sevilla DENY that Alberto Moreno is on the verge of making Liverpool switch

SEVILLA president Jose Castro has denied that a deal is in place that will see Alberto Moreno join Liverpool immediately after the European Super Cup.

Sevilla face Real Madrid in Cardiff and reports had suggested that it would be Moreno's last appearance for the team he grew up with before joining the Reds.
Liverpool have been in negotiations over Moreno for the best part of the summer and it seems that there is still some water to go under the bridge before the Anfield outfit know whether they've got their man.
It has been suggested that Sevilla initially upped their asking price for Moreno after he was included in Vicente Del Bosque's preliminary World Cup squad.
But the move was revived recently during talks over a loan move for Iago Aspas after Liverpool missed out on Ben Davies and Ryan Bertrand. And while Castro has confirmed that talks were held in the last couple of weeks, it seems that something else has now scuppered the move.

Castro told AS:
"There have been negotiations about ten days ago but today we don't have an agreement.
"The price of the player is well-established.
"If Liverpool pay the price that we want then he will go, otherwise he will stay with us."
