I don't think people are happy Mark. More resigned to it. I doubt any money will be ploughed into the team. We're really fucked.

I don't know mate, there's a whole load of shrugging going on in the Yossi thread. And much the same regards Masher and Kuyt.
From a personal viewpoint, for me its more the defence mechanism of being rejected in our hour of need.
I dont Reaaaaalllly want anyone to leave, but if players want to leave then fuck em.
are you kidding me? there's a massive long list of people that need to be fucked off. and not a single one of them must be replaced under any circumstances. that's not depressing in my eyes, thats progress.
Oh yes they firkin do. Our squad was too thin last season as it was.

Has Lucarse said anything yet, or is he worried that it will just remind people he is still at Anfield

A player that did more than most to fuck up Benitez at Anfield, although not through any fault of his own.

Unless you count 'being shit'

Rafa saddened by Liverpool exit
Tuesday 15th June 2010 13:43

New Inter Milan boss Rafael Benitez admits it was hard for him to leave Liverpool but insists he had to do it.

Benitez parted company with the Reds by mutual consent at the beginning of the month after six years at Anfield, with the Spaniard paying the price for a disappointing season.

The Champions League-winning coach claims it was a wrench to leave Liverpool but knows it was obvious his time on Merseyside had come to an end.

"It was difficult to leave Liverpool after six years working there, I had amazing times there," said Benitez as he was presented to the press today. "Also my daughter is seven, she lived most of her life there.

"It's not easy but things changed so I needed to move and I had the perfect opportunity to come to Inter

"I hope it will be perfect for me and perfect for Inter.

"The club was fantastic, the fans amazing so it was a really sad day when i had to go but things changed so it was obvious I had to do it."

Benitez refused to comment on his relationship with Liverpool owners Tom Hicks and George Gillett, adding: "The owners are the owners. Now I'm in a different club and I'm very happy to be here.

"My relationship with Liverpool fans was great from the beginning and I hope it will be so here. I think the fans will be happy."

Speculation is rife that Benitez will raid Liverpool for his former players, with Steven Gerrard and Javier Mascherano reportedly top of the wish list.

The 50-year-old remained tight-lipped on possible transfer targets, but hinted he could attempt to bring his former captain to the San Siro after the World Cup.

"I have been in contact with the majority of players and the majority said thanks for everything and all the best," said Benitez.

"I talked to Gerrard when it was his birthday and he's fine. He wants to talk about the World Cup now, not anything else.

"I wished them all good luck for the World Cup. Now they're all focused on that."

Benitez earned a place in Anfield folklore by guiding Liverpool to 2005 Champions League glory in his first season.

He followed that with FA Cup success in 2006 and another Champions League final appearance 12 months later. After finishing runners-up in the Premier League in 2009, many expected a serious title tilt this year but it failed to materialise.

Early elimination from the Champions League was followed by a failure to finish in the top four and to re-qualify for Europe's elite event.

We don't need to operate at a massive net spend to keep up expectations.

We're just used to pissing money away left, right and centre on players we do not need or ones we refuse to play.

Hopefully the new manager will be able to operate the purse strings a lot more effectively that the man he replaced.
Rafa was actually in profit on his buying and selling.

The only players he made a loss on was easily covered on the profit he made just from the Alonso sale.

I'm not talking about money, I'm talking about buying the right players which actually fit into the *footballing* side of this *football*club.

Oh If only he could have bought a decent defender that can carry the ball like Agger, or a world class Goalie Like Pepe, or a decent midfield like Macher, or a world class striker like Torress... Oh hang on

There's no point tho; there's a fair bunch of fans who'll always regard Rafa as some fat Leonidas defending the gates of Thermopylae against the Persian Immortals.

Leave the revisionists to it.

I'm glad this thread keeps getting resurrected. It gives me a little lift every time I'm reminded of it.

Sadly this thread reminds me that we've dispensed with the services of a Manager good enough for the European Champions and are contemplating hiring a pensioner with a speech impediment.

Apologies in advance for the negativity, I just think we're in meltdown. No Manager, no money, disinterested owners, a board lacking trust, silent players, reactionary fans, and no buyer for our once great club.

Yeah, the sooner this thread diappears into the distance and we have some 'news' to discuss, the better.

Dont forget we dispensed of a manager who couldn't take his own squad to a league position above Villa, Man City and Spurs. And only just above Everton.

Ah yes, that one seasons the only one that counts. Bwing on wisible Woy.

I can't wait.

Honestly, I would rather David Brent be our manager than Rafa. At least he would be funny as he failed.

You may think one season, but I would have got rid at the end of season 2006-2007, his first season as a failure with no trophies. Anyway this has been done to death....

Benitez wasn't working here.

The squad was fucked and wasn't playing for him, and there was not one glimpse that he was going to turn it around.

And then he went to the owners wanting to rebuild - again.

That's all that really matters

Speaking at his unveiling at the San Siro yesterday, Benitez hailed Dalglish, who worked with him last year during his role as a youth ambassador, as "the best man for the job" and warned owners George Gillett and Tom Hicks to listen to growing calls by fans to appoint the Scot.

He said: "I think they should look at Kenny Dalglish. He is the best man for the job. The owners should listen to the fans because they are unhappy.

"No one knows the club better than Dalglish, and he would be perfect there. He wants the job and in my opinion he should get it."

So Kuyt is going then. We'll have 25m for Masher and 15m for Kuyt thanks Rafa
So Kuyt will replace Eto'o on the right side of the Inter attack.

Only one man would do that

Eto'o isn't suited out there to be honest. It's quite a waste of goals.

God knows why Cameron are trying the same strategy.
