Liverpool and Spurs target Jackson Martinez will only move for £35m

NAPOLI could be set to continue their summer spending spree after agreeing terms with Porto star Jackson Martinez - although Liverpool and Tottenham are not yet out of the race to sign the £35million-rated striker.

Jackson Martinez has agreed terms over a transfer to Napoli
Both Liverpool and Spurs have been linked with moves for the prolific Colombian international in recent months - after he scored 29 goals in 38 games for Porto last season.

And while Napoli could add Martinez to their ranks this summer - the player's agent has warned that they or any other suitors must pay the full £35m release clause in his contract.

"There is an agreement with the player," Manuel Manzo told Sky Sport Italia over Napoli's interest in Martinez.

"However, one with Porto is missing and they don’t want to sell.

"The only chance of a move happening, in my opinion, is if the Azzurri pay the €40m (£35m) rescission fee clause which is in his contract. Otherwise he won’t move."

Napoli could yet stall on signing the 26-year-old - having already signed Gonzalo Higuain, Pepe Reina, Raul Albiol and Jose Callejon this summer with the £55m recouped from selling Edinson Cavani to PSG.

Martinez is a regular for Colombia
If so, Liverpool and Spurs could rekindle their interest in Porto forward Martinez, especially if their star men Luis Suarez and Gareth Bale are sold for big-money.

According to reports in Italy, Napoli have so far lodged a £28m bid for the South American hitman having agreed a five-year deal with the player worth a relatively modest £33,000-a-week.

Never seen him play mind (perhaps maybe once or twice) so what I mean is, he literally has got the looks of a player that knows his way to the net.

I think that's important.

A year younger, about £10 million costlier, 1 proven season in European football. Might be the reasons why Spurs opted for Soldado instead.

Paying 35 mill for him now is insane when we could have signed him for 7-8 mill last season.

Fuck that!

The Gareth Bale saga continues to spin out-of-control.
On Saturday night there were counter reports that Tottenham had done a deal with Real Madrid.
Spanish radio station Cadena Ser, the equivalent of the BBC, made the huge claim that Tottenham have accepted a 96 million euro bid for Bale, with the caveat that the Welsh striker does not leave until the end of next season, summer 2014. On the other hand, the Sunday Telegraph splashed their backpage with news that Spurs are furious over the Gareth Bale transfer speculation, and the Lillywhites are refusing to do business with Real Madrid.
Now the Sunday Times’ Duncan Castles has waded into the mire, printing an article detailing what Spurs plan to do if the sale of Bale actually goes through.
In an article surely aimed at hyping up Spurs fans, Castles writes:
Tottenham are considering a bid for unsettled Liverpool striker Luis Suarez and Colombia international Jackson Martinez as they plan to reinvest the income from Gareth Bale’s pending transfer to Real Madrid. Andre Villas-Boas is also seeking reinforcements in defence and on the wing to mitigate the world-record sale.
Reports claiming Tottenham are chasing Luis Suarez are in fact not that new. For over a week now Spanish reports have said that Spurs would like to sign the Uruguayan should Bale leave White Hart Lane, however no bids from Tottenham have yet been lodged.
Moreover, would Suarez really move to Tottenham? If the South American striker wishes to leave Liverpool, would he really go to another club in England who also aren’t in this season’s Champions League? It’s doubtful.
Moving to a supposed Tottenham bid for Jackson Martinez, once again has to doubt the possibility of that deal coming to fruition.
Porto’s 26-year-old Colombian centre-forward would cost Tottenham around €35m, however the Porto attacker, who scored an amazing 39 goals in 48 games for club and country last season, recently told Radio Renascenca:
I am happy to be here at a club like this. I am enjoying the opportunity to play here, I want to repeat what happened last season and win more trophies with Porto.
Saying all that, if Tottenham did have a strike-force of Roberto Soldado, Luis Suarez and Jackson Martinez next season, some would start believing the North Londoners could win their first league title since 1961.

STOP MARTINEZ - In the last hours has run something complicated in the negotiations between Naples and Port Jackson Martinez, who Bigon the attacker is trying to engage. The agreement with the player there is, it lacks the one with the club asks that the € 40 million release clause, while Napoli is still only at 32. As of yesterday, however, there will even be on Martinez Tottenham that with the money they will collect from the sale of Bale to Real Madrid, will pay the amount requested by the Portuguese.

If we sold Suarez we would have enough money for both Muriel and Martinez. Muriel + Martinez is surely better than just Suarez, even if he goes to Arsenal?

If Suarez helps Arsenal get an extra 10 points next season, they'll be on 83 points which might be enough to help them win the league, or at the least put them firmly in the top 3.
I'd rather Arsenal not be strengthened by us.
