He's now a good Premiership defensive midfielder

He needs to consistently be as good as he was against Bolton to be an automatic choice, and he should be competing against someone better than Jay Spearing for his position.

The two seasons he's been relied on have coincided with our weakest league positions in beards.
And of course nothing to do with having funds tied up in debt and having our worst manager in 50 years. Let's blame it on Lucas.
Rafa was shite but come on he wasnt the worst...
I thought he meant Rafa too, but he means Roy.

little whoosh for you... 😉

The people who said Lucas was great a couple of years ago were just as wrong as those who continue to deny his improvement now.
Did you mean to post that on RAWK?

Go on, who on SCM said he was great? Quite a few of us said he doesn't deserve the abuse he gets on here and that there is a player in there, but who exactly called him great?

Wow yet another Lucas thread! As one of his Defenders in Chief, its nice to see people slowly coming around even thought they qualify those statements with a load of crap. 🙂

Lucas is the glue that holds the midfield together, the platform for the likes of Adam, Meirilies, and Gerrard to do their stuff. No matter who he partners, he does a sterling job. Those that say they can't see him in a title winning team, will only see it when we do. He must be the 2nd name on the team sheet after Pepe. KK himself expressed surprise Lucas didn't have a song. Lucas has been good for two seasons now, so those that only now see it, you're late. 🙂
TThat's the over the top completely incorrect post we rational people hate. Lucas second name on the team sheet lol.
with gerrard out it's lucas + 3, as I can't see us starting without a holding midfielder but I can see adam, downing and henderson being rotated.
I'd be surprised if Downing was rotated. He's the only out and out winger in the team and will play week in, week out provided he's injury free.

Agree that Henderson and Adam may be rotated if/when Gerrard return.

To Queens we will rock you (with stamping and clapping)Buddy your a Redman, hard man, playing in our team gonna be the best man one day. Youve got blood on your face, your tackling's ace, spraying through balls all over the place. Singin.....Lucaaaaas Lucaaas, Leiva!!!!!!!

He was very good against Bolton and if he carries on playing like that then i'll be made up for him/us. As it stands right now though that type performance is the exception rather than the rule.

And the rest of the utter fucking shite we were landed with Poulsen, Konchesky, Ngog etc... But let's forget those players and others who contributed to how shite we were and focus on the obvious fact it was all down to one player shall we?
That was last season. He said he'd been good for two. He was ok last season but he was fucking bollocks the year before. The massive problem then was him, and his position. We'd just come 2nd, lost Alonso, didn't replace him and relied on Lucas who was a bag of shite.

I already said I'm a FLID anyways. My position is clear.
So Lucas cost us the league and not Rafas negative approach and baffling substitutions ? See now I just find that plain wrong and a perfect example of Lucas scapegoating

Both were relevant factors, and they're not distinct from one another anyway. Relying on Lucas instead of moving Stevie into that position was one of Rafa's most baffling and negative decisions.

I'm not saying the lad wasn't a poor player at time because he was. You also make a valid point JJ - did the managers tactics contribute to how poor he was ? And I know he"s never going to be world beater - he's certainly no Eusebio that's for sure. He IS a better player than many make out though and he does have an important part to play in the team. It's just that every poor performance and mistake seems to see him singled out for analysis and criticism when there's many more players on the pitch who are equally if not more culpable at times yet seem to avoid the level of critical debate levelled at the lad. He has become a scapegoat and there are times he does have to shoulder some blame for his personal performances which is fair enough.

Do you ever take a break from this place 😉

How was the head Sunday morning? Big night Saturday?

Head was rough mate. Got in around 1 a.m. . Was never drinking again and all that. Which lasted about 5 hours before I went the Matthew Street festival

Can't blame Lucas for yesterday, if we could finish we'd have won the game comfortably
eh? i counted 2 chances in the whole game.

i agree that Lucas played really well, though.

henderson debacle
suarez last minute open goal
suarez shot blocked in front of goal (henderson cross, keeper flap)
downing header
bellamy header
just off the top of my head
