£5.2M pa sounds a bit too much for Maxi imo.

If that is what he is really getting paid then yes it is a hell of a lot

None to fussed whether Maxi stays or go. I enjoyed his hattricks but that has been his only contribution to our club. If we're saving on wages then let him go.

Ok, now I'm worried, the idea of Maxi and Meireles being replaced by Adam and Downing is genuinely scary.

I thought ye saw Maxi as a non entity Ryan? No stirring just curious if you've warmed to him lately or something?

I like Maxi, but only in a pass and move environment. He's no good plodding away on the left in a dire game against Stoke but he'll flourish playing alongside Suarez, Raul, Gerrard and Kuyt who constantly move into positions to accept a pass.

I think maxi flatters to decieve. all well and good getting those two hattricks when the season is winding down and The Lying Rag is shining but where the fuck was he when we had our usual annual slump? would rather have someone who consistently contributes even during a tough spell (for the club) than someone who has the odd purple patch that skews his stats to make him look better than he actually is.

If Maxi IS on 100k a week, those 2 hat-tricks cost 5.5mil each coz he's done fuck all else apart from them for 2 years.

He is on £100k a week as he was a free transfer, that's the way it works.
He is not a left winger , but was played there as no one else was either and our other right sided mf / hole player who got stuck on the left and was no good there , Yossi, got fed up and went.

I would be inclined to try and persuade him to stay the year too, we want to build up the squad.

regards

When we were playing some lovely stuff at the end of last year it was because Meireles, MAxi, Suarez and Kuyt were all linking up so well because they're all smart players.

Yep, i've said the same about Maxi many many times. He lacks the unique attributes (pace & power) but links well with others and is a fine complimentary player. Hope he stays one more year.

Yeah i like him. If he goes it needs to be for a younger model.
But same as with the Meireles thing, theres plenty id see go before Max.

I think towards the end of last season he had a really good patch,a nd he can play a bit also ( every bit as much as any of the players we´ve been linked to so far this summer...) but if he is 31 and on 5M a year in wages and wants to go then good luck to him.

Liverpool currently pay more than £500,000 a week in wages to players who were out on loan last season, or barely featured in the first team, and are keen to cut that wasteful spending.

Rodriguez is certainly on that list, with a salary of nearly £90,000 a week, and the club will definitely not stand in his way, as he revealed yesterday he wants to rejoin Newell’s Old Boys, the club where he first made his name.

And to spend almost £5million a year in wages on a fringe player is unthinkable, given the club is not in the Champions League.

The stumbling block will be those wages, with Old Boys in no position to meet them.

It will mean Liverpool paying Rodriguez to go
, but the Anfield board are likely to look to the long-term and rid themselves of a massive expense.

Why would we have the pleasure in paying off Maxi to leave when its he who wants out ? If he's looking any sort of pay off keep him until his contract runs out.

In this case, paying off as in to 'make up' for the drop in wage he'll take for a move back to Argentina. Say his remaining contract with us is 5m, then a pay of 2m will allow us to save 3m and him to accept a much lower wage offer from other teams. Jovanovic's apparently looking for something like that.

But the question is can we get a similar player in the squad for the remaining 3m?

I reckon it's impossible, so it'll cost us to get rid and then to replace. Given we have other priorities for transfer funds, keeping him for the year and letting him walk next year seems the most sensible option

All this "where was Maxi when times were tough" business.

Where was the fucking TEAM, when we were wallowing in Shite Lake ?!

That's indeed a consideration but I guess depending on our summer signings, his place could well be taken by a youth player (Suso/Sterling/Pacheco etc.)? In short though, we shouldn't really be expecting any transfer fees, should Maxi leave/be allowed to.

Fucking Joe Cole got nigh on £5m didn't he? He should be getting the brunt of the lynch mob.

£5m + £100k a week. Jesus christ. I Wish we'd just kept Benny and Riera!

On 13 January 2010, Rodríguez completed a free transfer to Liverpool, signing a three-and-a-half year deal [6] and being given the number 17 shirt.[7] He made his debut for the club as a second-half substitute in a league match against Stoke City on the 16th,[8] his first full start coming a week and a half later, away to Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Wiki may be wrong of course.

As regards a signing on fee, there could well be an element to that , but any fee and incentivised wages would normally be well below the market value.

The transfer of Maxi Rodriguez from Atletico Madrid to Liverpool is close to completion, but contrary to earlier reports of a 1.5 million deal, the Argentine midfielder could end up moving to Anfield for free...

As Tony Barrett reported in The Times earlier today, Rafa Benitez will receive no additional transfer funds from the sale of players.

However, Atletico Madrid have been early movers in the January transfer window and have already begun recruiting players, including a midfielder - and are looking to get Maxi Rodriguez - a high earner, surplus requirements and who could leave the club for free in the summer - off their books for six months.

A £1.5 million signing on fee is being discussed and payment would be spread, in the form of a salary, between now and the end of the season. All of which means that, unless there are any last minute changes of heart, the move represents an excellent deal for Benitez who will get his target, in essence, on a free transfer.

Ahhhhhhhhh. Knew I wasn't making up 1.5

Maxi Rodriguez does not want to return home this year - quotes out of context - and has been told by #LFC they want him for next season.
