a good 3rd/4th striker option ...

What I hope we do this summer is spend 40 million on two world class players, and a few bosmans to strengthen the skwad (like a Maxi, like a Jovanovic etc)

Buy a solid, dependable LB - £5M
Second striker £11-13M
Third striker - free.
Experienced CM - 3-4M

Spunk the rest on someone ultra creative.

The monopoly money.

I would assume as he is coming on a Bosman he would command a considerible signing on fee as would his agent. Couple that with a generous wage packet all of which comes out of our purchase fund and I doubt if there will be substancial funds left for other players to come in.
He is far from free I think.
If he is coming in I think we might as well say hello to our second striker.

Not really.

I'd like someone quick for the right flank, so we can move Dirk back into the striking positions and inject some pace into the side.

Someone a bit like Lennon, but not him.

I'd settle for Milner, but I fear he'd be way over-priced.

Yeah, cos according to Purslow, our esteemed owners don't have a pot to piss in and are not prepared to fund further transfers.

They're now saying it's completed.

Apparently we've lined up three bosmans to sign up in the summer. Assuming that Chamakh and Jovanovic are two of them, i wonder who's the third?

If we've signed the two you've mentioned, that's our strikers set for next year - Torres Chamakh Jovanovic Kuyt/Ngog (also means Pacheco/Eccelstone/Nemeth will get little to no playing time)

If we can sign two half decent strikers - they don't have to be great - on Bosmans, I think we have to be very happy about that.

In an ideal world, our squad would get the 100M worth of investment it needs, but as that isn't going to happen, we're going to need to make the absolute most out of what little money we do have to spend.

If they're good enough mate, i'm sure they'll get their chances.

I've never seen much of Chamakh/Jovanovic so i can't really comment, but for the people who have would you be happy with us having those 3 as our strikers for next season?

Just over a year ago he was linked with Merseyside rivals Everton, as well as Aston Villa, but rejected a move to Goodison Park out of hand.

"Everton aren't a big club. That club I have turned down already," he told Serbian website Blic online at the time.

I must admit, I'm not particularly enamoured by this guy. He certainly has the potential to be another Voronin. That is, decent record in a shit league; never been tested at anything approaching the highest level; nobody else of note wants him etc. Plus his youtube compilations are shit.

Still, we live in hope.

Liverpool FC sign Serbia international Milan Jovanovic
Feb 3 2010 by Ian Doyle, Daily Post

RAFAEL BENITEZ’S summer squad rebuilding began in earnest yesterday when Milan Jovanovic sealed a move to Liverpool.

The Serbia international has signed a pre-contract agreement that will see him arrive from Belgian club Standard Liege at the end of the season.

Jovanovic’s consistently impressive form had attracted a clutch of potential suitors from across Europe, including Italian giants AC Milan.

He was reported to be stalling over a move to Liverpool until assurances were made over the long-term future of Benitez.

And the 29-year-old has now negotiated a three-year deal at Anfield that commits him to the club until at least 2013.

Jovanovic boasts a record of almost a goal every other game during his spell at Liege, for whom he played against both Liverpool and Everton in Europe last season.

A regular for Serbia, he is expected to play a key role for his country in this summer’s World Cup finals in South Africa.

Jovanovic will have endeared himself to Liverpool supporters with his claims a year ago of having turned down a move to neighbours Everton by saying: “Everton aren’t a big club. That club I have turned down already.â€

Benitez remains interested in Marouane Chamakh, the Bordeaux striker, also available on a free transfer in June.

Jovanovic’s imminent arrival is a sign of Benitez planning for life at Anfield beyond the end of the season, despite continued interest from Juventus.

Jamie Carragher believes such rumours are nothing new and is confident Liverpool can ignore outside influences ahead of Saturday’s visit of Everton.

He said: “Liverpool has always had speculation about managers, players, players coming, players going and it’s the same as managers.

“People always want to talk about the club, whether it is positively or negatively, and if you play for Liverpool you have got to get used to that as part of the job.â€

Liverpool have included promising youngsters David Amoo, Daniel Pacheco, Alex Kacaniklic, Gerardo Bruna, Steven Irwin and Robbie Threlfall in their 35-man squad for the Europa League. But new signing Maxi Rodriguez is ineligible after appearing in the Champions League for Atletico. Liverpool take on Romanian champions Unirea Urziceni with the first leg at Anfield on Thursday, February 18.

Well, that's it done by the looks of things. I guess we'll find out how good he is next season.

Is this the start of the 'big' summer?

Anyone know this bloke (other than off a computer game)? I don't follow Belgian or Serbian footy myself.

I'm from Serbia, and I watched him a lot of times playing for my country. He wasn't a first choice forward, but during WC qualifications he asked to train with team and impressed Radomir Antic. He is a guarantee to go to WC now.

Anyway, he is a very very hard working forward, quite powerful and stubborn in a way. Kinda reminds of Kujt. His finishing is good, as is his overall link up play. Not very pacey though.

He might not be a great or very exciting signing, but he is very determined and hard working player. At least as a backup player I think he will do much better then Voronin (not that itself qualifies as success).

Hi... I have seen him many times, and this is my opinion of him. First of all, I don't know who said he doesn't have pace?! He is the fastest player on Serbian NT, he is even faster than Krasic. He is naturally left footed, but hes right foot is as good as hes left. He has a good shot on him from distance, and scored a brace from distance against Romania with both feet actually. He dribbles good, and very good tehniuqe. He only plays as left forward in Serbian NT, and along with Ivanovic and Krasic he was Serbia's best player during qualifyers for WC, I also think that he was the topscorer. Because of hes pace, I personally like him more on the wing, because of hes good driblings and pace he gets past players with 'ease'... He is not that bad at heading , hes only weak thing would probably be that he is not a ball winner... But very good player in hes best years, a late bloomer you can call him... and he has won Belgian Leauges player of the year for 2 or 3 years in a row. Or maybe he came second once, not totally sure there.

So he's either like Kuyt or he's not.

Heh, it would seem so.

Nah, the prevailing opinion appears to be that he's like Kuyt in that he's extremely hardworking. The only point in question is whether he has pace. There seem to be more people saying he has a bit of pace though, so maybe there is hope for us yet.

Youtube videos are bollocks, but the first impressions I got were that he was Kuyt-like, he does look quicker though.

The last time we signed a striker from Standard Liege it was Ronny Rosenthal wasnt it? Not sure if thats a good or bad omen - memories switch between the "perfect hattrick" on his debut and that missed goal at Villa Park
