Mo Salah 2025/26 Season

If only there was to go and check if there was any constant blaming on Gerrard when he was ending his career here.
Already done, there wasn’t. The expectation of trying to defy ageing wasn’t a thing and maybe we were smarter then. I’m sure Mammi Mia could run a full RAG analysis on sentiment though…

I don't remember that far back - but I'm almost positive there was "we need to move on from Gerrard or find his successor" talk because people realized, including him (!) I'm sure, that the level wasn't there anymore.

It happens to all legends - it's what made Ferguson (and to a degree Pep) excellent - they knew when to get rid of their legends, and when to let them stay because the squad/playing style/formation *could* accommodate the level they were at.

As for yesterday, the assist to Dom was out of this world (and on his right foot). Fucking brilliant and the finish matched it (Gerrard'esque on both). As for the goal, I think Salah gets lucky and does foul the Brighton player but considering how often I've bitched of how little protection Mo gets, I'm glad nothing was whistled and he got his peno and goal.

It was a good performance overall, and hopefully, a sign of things to come because if he can hit a certain level consistently and help us win games etc, we will finish this season where we need to be (top 4/5, and hopefully silverware). It will also increase his value enough if we feel it's time to move on from him (who knows).

I thought he had a good game, and I think that Brighton was about like playing a second rate European side, in terms of style and quality, so it suited everyone.

The pass he played for szobos goal was absolutely gorgeous.

We need him to find some goals through the rest of the season and find some form. Even in his decline he can be more useful than he has been this season, and we've got no choice, at all.

On the decline though, I think that people who don't think he has been getting worse for years are actually more disrespectful. It's like they don't remember what made him electric, or how he drew like 2 or 3 defenders every time he had the ball. He has been in so many situations this year where I know he's not going to score, that years ago he scores about 75% of the time. He couldn't score them last year either.

The most simple goal he can't score any more is any counter breakaway. He out muscles defenders this game, goes to top speed, and his on the ball top speed isn't fast enough to give him enough space. He's not a technical dribbler so the chance is over.

He still tries to score that goal. Every instinct from years of playing says he should keep trying. But no one really respects his speed anymore, and they shouldn't. As neat as him being deeper and having some moments and playing inside out crosses can be, his wages can pay for two players equally as useful to this side, and we should look for someone who can score that goal.

Like, can you imagine teams trying this everyone up for some 1/40 chance deep second ball freekick, of ugly stupid throw in bullshit when we were in our pomp? Salah would be standing on the halfway line and after three games of that no one would do it.

Great to Virgil’s quotes hoping Salah stays beyond this summer and how important he on and off the pitch for setting standards.

I think Virgil played a big part in Mo staying and starting all the games he has since AFCON.

His fitness levels are off the charts.

He’s always available and can last 90+ minutes. Unlike Hugo or Wirtz for example.

A forward who almost never gets injured is so rare in this league.

Playing the 90 minutes doesn't mean he can last the 90 minutes.
There's been games where he's very much on the periphery and the pressing isn't there at the end

He definitely can't last 90 minutes, particular for two games a week, at the required level, but yeah, his durability is nuts.

I think it’s time to move on this summer. He’s a legend but doesn’t have the level required to start and earn 500k a week.

Who is on half a million now? Well that’s a new one.
Can we stop increasing his wages while at it, it’s not 500k. The point is no one disagreeing he is older and his legs have gone, can he still contribute till end of season? Course he can especially since we have no other option on right. A bit disrespectful to not realise where we stand with our options at present.

If he can't accept becoming a bit part player and being managed to maximise his output, then absolutely

Dreamy is always way over the top regarding Salah and regarding his performance yesterday, but he was good yesterday.

He still lost the ball a bunch early on by predictably cutting in on his left foot, but started to beat his man to the outside and showed excellent hold up play when we played into him. They had to double up on him and created more space for others.

The assist to Szobo was beautiful, but I will be happy if Salah can consistently lose the ball left often and find the right pass more regularly. For me goals and assists are a little a bonus, and he will always get a good number, but it is helping out the team in other ways that make me want him on the field.

More of yesterday please.
