Man of the Match MOTM Madrid (H) 1-0 - Momo’s POTS awards

A lot of his saves were right in front of him, except for Sboz's shot, which was at the perfect height for a save. While he is a Terrific keeper, a lot of the commentary about his keeping on Tuesday was excessive IMHO.

PS: Does anyone else think he looks a lot like Charles De Gaulle? 🤣

It’s amazing how many shots are straight at Alison Becker…..

One of the essential parts of being a top class keeper is positioning. Sort of similar to the best strikers just coincidentally being in the right place for a tap in cf. Ian Rush

Not sure I agree mate in this incidence. I think a keeper has a great game when he has to reflexively move beyond his position to make saves. He can have a solid game by standing where he is (like Cortois did) but not deserving of the high praise given.

So a keeper who positions himself poorly & does a cat flip to claw a ball around the post, is better than the guy who is in the perfect position and catches the ball against his chest?

That's the thing with goalies. The best ones always seem to get directly shot at miraculously.

I think you might be doing a little contorting here yourself 🙂

If the keeper is in the center of the goal (where he should be) and a shot comes straight at him, he's expected to save it.
Just because a keeper positions himself in the center and he saves shots that come at the center, it's a solid save, but not really legendary.
A keeper who adjusts his feet, makes his way over to the posts, or leaps up and tips it over the bar,
OR has an amazing record at 1-on-1's (like Allison), gets the plaudits.

Even the close stop in the second half, we was where he's expected to be.

For me, Courtois did a good bread and butter job, with one great save (the one on one with Sboz). But the praise was too much.
