Post Match Newcastle (A) Aug 26th 2 fucking 3

My favourite angle to watch it is from behind Alisson's goal. There you can see the stretching of the pitch, Elanga watching the play develop and blissfully ignorant of Ngumoha's presence.

I'm also chuffed with the kid's celebration. Just raw delight; he even looked a bit lost for a moment when he pointed to the crowd and then realized, "hang on, I've got a celebration to continue". None of that rehearsed, posing shit which unfortunately he'll likely pick up a while later in his career (they almost all do).

Amen, really amen. Loved his celebration.

I seem to recall an excellent ball from Mo, begging for a cushioned, side-foot finish with his left, instead of which we got a swing and a miss with his right. Frankly he could have been the second coming of Alonso for the rest of the game, that's all I would have remembered.
But I do have a bugbear about players not being able / willing to use their "other" foot.

If those stats are real it's kind of worrying because we had obviously struggled to progress up the pitch and if he is making all those passes it must have been short, safe backwards passes for the goalie or defender to boot up. He needs to stand up and do something. I will take a worse passing rate if he will just try to be more progressive.

this is why some stats are shit. It felt like Jones was constantly in the wrong place defensively in the first half exposing us down the left w/ Kerkez. So his duel count was low cos he wasn't even there for some he needed to be there for.

Jones was shit. Rather Jones is shit, has always been shit and will always be shit. He thinks he's so much better than he is too which is why I can't stand the cunt.

We had "control" for about 15mins of the 1st half and 5mins of the 2nd half....& that's being generous.

Still lives off that FA cup goal against the bitters like 73 years ago. Dude, you're the same fucking player then as you are now. All your little meaningless flicks and showboats in training isn't pulling the wool over anyone's eyes.

Ah yes, who could forget this move.

"Nice, now pass the ball Jones"
"Pass the ball Jones"
"Pass the ball Jones"
"No but seriously, pass the fucking ball you cunt"
"PASS TH......." *turns over possession"
That was me, but I was saying it in Swedish

For me, Jones' best attribute is his off-ball running when we push out on an attack. He knows where to run, he sees space well and he's willing and able to make the dash to surge past the defence and get to the end of a cross.

He scored the winner against Chelsea last season doing exactly that. I believe his push contributed to the panic which resulted in Chiesa's goal last week. He missed Salah's cross by a fraction in the Newcastle game, but he was in the right place and space for it.

Which makes him a good support striker (one day) perhaps. I actually don't want him to touch the ball that much because... we know what happens. I want him running off ball to get into the box and attack crosses or get to the end of passes.

We have a winner!

People are so blinded by their hatred of Jones that they can't even make the correct criticism when he does do something wrong. It's always just "he held on to the ball too long" no matter what he does.

In that case once he'd got behind their midfield running with the ball was exactly the right move. He was correctly waiting for space to open up as their defence backpedalled.

What he did wrong was completely mess up the final pass.

ultimately it doesn’t matter what curtis did in that move, he had a multitude of choices and produced nothing of note aside from dribbling past 1 player.

i don’t hate him at all, he has tremendous ability inside him but i think he needs to understand that less is more a lot of times and he needs to somehow make better decisions and faster.

Who are you arguing with?

He messed up the final pass because he held on to the ball for too long.

Seriously, some here just spot a post by me and disagree just for the sake of it.

Is Salah really "an excellent dribbler"? He's definitely excellent at dribbling directly at a defender and giving the ball away. And he might be strong in a standing wrestling match, but pretty useless at the shoulder to shoulder duels you need to win when taking players on at pace. Yes, he produces the occasional brilliant run. But his median attempt is pitiful. And he's been like that as long as I can remember.

He was pretty decent in the first few years when he had pace - scored a few memorable goals beating 4-5 players. He gotten progressively worse year on year though and yeah now it’s a hard watch when he’s one on one a lot of the time.
