Post Match Newcastle (A) Aug 26th 2 fucking 3

Shocking performance.

One thing i've noticed with Wirtz, he made about 20 doggy runs side to side, and the sluggish defenders and midfielders simply couldn't find him between the lines.

Pointless having a player like him, if you're not going to pass him the ball in tight spaces.

Also, I'm worried that Rio goal will mean we won't sign a winger. We need some explosive pace and strength out wide. Gakpo, Salah, Rio ain't it.

Once again, we looked completely toothless once Ekitike got subbed. That's happened 3 games in a row, where we have no forward presence when he's subbed. Chiesa is a nice lad, great song, but he's no CF.

We need 2, probably at least 3 signings this week.

Seeing the way Newcastle bullied us at set pieces and throw ins, I'm worried about the Arsenal game.

Its gonna take 5-10 games for the guys to click. This does not excuse the defence, VVD as Captain needs to do better and organise the defence better.

Kerkez, I'm not getting annoyed at him yet, yes he was weak for their first goal, but why the hell have we signed one of the best attacking full backs in the league, and insist on playing him as a false centre back. Two games in a row he's barely got forward, and I'm sure it's by instruction, feels like we are completely stifling his natural instinct, no wonder he looks a bit lost.

I wholeheartedly agree, at times he looks like a luxury option out there, but then he turns up with the assist for the winning goal, although it should belong to Szobo for that dummy.
Thing is, he leaves us massively exposed along our right side whilst offering nothing going forward on a bad game. It worked brilliantly for a while when he wasn’t in decline, but it will cost us repeatedly going forwards if this continues.

It could be Gakpo is in his way? Gakkers hugs that touchline up to the pen area.

There's nothing much to really like about us right now.

Defending is bad, we always look likely to concede especially from set pieces. Midfield is poor, it's not working, we were 2nd best there easily. Up front we're a big threat, 7 goals in 2 games but even there something feels off. Pace is one thing we really need.

We were 2-0 up v 10 men there & cruising. To end up hanging on for the draw deep into injury time is unforgivable really, it was shambolic.

I can't help but keep thinking Brendan Rodgers football but this seems even more chaotic. Maybe that's because it's here & now.

You won't want to hear this, but it's because of Mo. We are lopsided. It allows Mo to cheat defensively and have our RB overlap him and create space for him to cut inside. He doesn't have legs to track back.

To Alan Shearer and the Newcastle fans with ugly mugs that the cameraman kept stuffing in my face:

Exactly, they were the reason Newcastle could pressure us with 10 men.
Just look at Elanga, that's the kind of pace and mobility we need

Konate is miles off where he should be, Kerkez isn't there yet either. Missing Szobo from midfield didn't help, and Wirtz isn't offering enough yet. There's a lot to be improved upon or fixed in the next few weeks.

The only players clearly contributing positively in the first two games are Ekitike, VVD, Szobo and Gakpo, and maybe a small argument for some others, but we need it to be a lot more.

Obviously fucking shit for the goal but I thought he was actually better than against Bournemouth and Palace overall

Bradley was worse once he came on
